| Indoor vs Outdoor Training I'm new to the boards and just got a 7 week old Yorkie, we've had her for a week and her name is Saddie (I have pictures of her in a thread I made in the general discussion section). We are trying to housetrain her and she makes her fair share of messes around the houses, fortunately we have all the carpeted areas set off limits, and we understand that accidents happen, especially with a puppy this young so we don't get too frustrated. We've tried to use a litter box with pee-pads in it. This worked for a few days. She would hop in it, pee, and hop right out. She'd generally poop elsewhere though. But now she doesn't seem to like the box that much. Instead she'll do all her business right in front of it, or elsewhere around the house. We've also taken her outside to potty and she seems a lot more comfortable with that. The ideal situation is for her to go outside while we're hear, and have her trained to use the litter box overnight or while no one is here. We change the pads after she uses them a few times. I know this takes a lot of time, I just wanted to know if there were any tips or just how we should praise her if she does what we want. Thanks in advance. |

| i think as far as indoor or outdoor it's just personal preference...i personally prefer coco to go outside because i'm a neat freak when it comes to my house. congrats on your new baby i'm sure she's a bundle of joy to have

| During the training phase, you might want to try to change the pads more often. I think my dog is a neat freak or something, because he won't go on his more than once or twice. So if he poos, the entire pad is gone. If he pees, the entire pad is gone. And that seems to be working better. He's way more apt to go on it when it's perfectly clean. You could also try putting the box by the place that they have picked to go. I've done that, and it's worked wonders. As far as outside training, I'm not a big help. My baby learned by watching his big sister!
