Confused Was trained, now reverted back to day 1 !

Okay, Duke was all housebroken (or so I thought). He would go on his pee pads 99.9% of the time was doing great. Now all of a sudden, he pees on my kithen floor, in his kennel, anywhere he feels like it. He knows he's been bad because he'll run into his kennel and hide from me. Also he has started turning over his water bowl ALL the time. He's 5 months old. Is it testosterone? Do I need to get him fixed earlier than June? He's just being a HUGE pill lately. Nothing has changed in our routine, or in his environment.
Thanks for the help

I am bumping this thread, because my pup is doing the same thing.

I have two girls, but I've heard that neutering helps with the random peeing everywhere. Since he's 5 months old-he's close to the right age for neutering. You might ask your vet if you can have it done sooner than June. It really depends on his development and size, etc.

The good (or maybe not good) news is that this seems normal to me. Emma (1 year) did this, from about 5 months until 9 or 10 months. Now she's very reliable about peeing on her pads. Milli (4.5 mo.) came to us mostly pad trained, and we're outdoor training her as well-but she too has many accidents. This breed is NOT known for being easily potty trained.

Hang in there, I think they get better as they get a little older.

I'm having the same problem. My Yorkie is 8 months now, I got him when he was 4. He has been doing really great until these last 2 weeks or so. He knows the designated potty area (which is in my bathroom) but he will not go on the pad, instead he goes right next to it. I've tried moving it closer and closer to where he goes but he keeps moving as well and then when I tried using multiple pads, he started peeing in the hallway! I am so frustrated with him. I think he is just being rebellious because he used to be great. He's also at the stage where he is tearing up any scrap of paper he can find. Every time I scold him for peeing on the floor or reward him for going on the pad I think I confuse him even more since it is all generally in the same place. I don't know what to do.

I'm so sorry. I know exactly what you're going through. Emma peed on the pad half the time and next to the pad the other half of the time until she was 11-12 months old. She constantly did this on our bedroom carpet in our condo, but since we moved to a house with wood floors, she's stopped doing that. Occasionally she misses when she pees really close to the edge of the pad, but I don't blame her for that. I have a couple of ideas for you to try:

-Make sure you're cleaning up the old pee spots REALLY well, using something like Nature's Miracle or Simple Solution. He might be peeing next to the pad because it still smells like pee
-Change the pads often. Milli doesn't like to go on pads that have more than a spot or two on them. Also, make sure you're picking up poop right away.
-Try a pad holder (frame) or put the pad in a small litter box. That way when you put your puppy on the pad, the area of the pad is CLEARLY defined, since they have to step over the holder/edge of the litter box.
-If he simply isn't going on the pad, soak up just a little pee with the pad so the scent of his pee is on there. If you have multiple dogs, keep them from peeing on "his" pad until he gets the hang of it.
-Is he neutered? He might be "marking" from the pad on out. Neutering might help. I think they usually grow out of this around a year in age too. I know that's not encouraging and it doesn't help the situation, but be consistent, lots of praise when he does get it right (treats help too!), and hopefully with his birthday the end is in sight! (?)

Wow, thanks for the advice. I will definitely try the litter box idea. I've been good about cleaning up the messes, I have "Petzyme" I don't know if that works as well as Nature's Miracle but it's supposed to. He's done a little better today, still some accidents but they were evened out with messes on the pad as well. Still not good enough by any means but hopefully a step in the right direction.

Thanks again for your help.

okey so what do you do when you keep cleaning the area over and over with natures miracle and also steam cleaning the same area and they keep doing it?

my pup is almost a year old and she pees pretty often outside of the litter box as of lately a few months now. I just cant break her out of it. I have steam cleaned and often clean and spray the area with a generous amount of natures miracle and she still does it. every time i go in there there is another new spot and she knows she did wrong cause as soon as i see it and say awww whats that she runs into her crate with her head down.

she was trained and never did anything outside of the box and now it seems like she doesnt care anymore and just goes pee and poo outside of it. one good thing is that she has only been going in one area of the house which is like a sunroom that we close off to her when we dont want her running around the house. its also carpeted. i would love to pull the carpet but there isnt a floor underneath so its not an option right now.

any other ideas?

ok its been a while since i wrote the above and i still have the same exact problem. i have even tried to do the whole crate training thing all over again and all she does is barks the whole time she is in the crate. i let her out a couple of hours later and she wont pee in the litterbox so back in the crate she goes and the barking starts right back up till the next time she is let out and it keeps going and going.

she has even been escaping down to the basement to just pee n poop everywhere.

she just doesnt care anymore what she is doing.

my whole family is beyond frustrated with her and i may just get rid of her. Im tired of finding the pee spots all over my carpet and the litter box clean. Enough is Enough! Im done with this dog! I will never get another yorkie again!

well, I don't think it's natural for most dogs to use the bathroom in a litter box so maybe that's your problem. Why don't you try taking her outside to potty? Take her out really often - like once an hour at first.

Default New rugs- yikes

Yikes, the worst happened! We got new rugs in our living room and Freyja initiated one with a poop. Hubby blew a gasket. We decided to put her doggie fence up against the doorway to block it. Still haven't got her completely trained and she'll be 2 in April!

A lot of good advice given already. Coby is pretty well fully trained for the rooms in which he has freedom. But with all the hub-bub of the holidays, different people around, being way off our routines, we've had a few surprising accidents as well. We didn't panic. We just backtracked a little and he is back to a little less freedom until we get back into our routines.

Those of you that are moms, you know holidays can be hard on children's routines and behaviors. There is some similarities with furbabies too.
