| Yorkie at night - whining and barking We just picked up our new little Yorkie (Baxter). He is just over 8 weeks old and is doing very well with his potty training outside. We have been having an issue the first couple of nights with him whining and barking. We have setup a wired dog cage in our kitchen area with his Kennel cab inside that. First night he whined and barked for about 20 minutes then went off to sleep. Last night, he slept for about an hour and then woke up and continued to bark and whine for about an hour until I finally got up and laid on the couch so he could see me there. We have been very good about leaving him to bark, but last night he seemed to have an endless amount of wind for it. I think we are on the right path for sleep training, any suggestions would be appreciated. |

| We had that problem with Maggie. She is now 14 weeks old. Her crate use to be in the kitchen, but she cried so much. I put it in our bedroom, and now she sleeps on an average of 6 hours, before she needs to go outside. Here is a guide to let you know how long they can hold it before they need to go outside. www.midwesthomes4pets.com

| All night whiner Coco had the same problem. i got her at little over 8weeks also and she wouldn't stop whimpering and whining. She wanted to come up on the bed with me but I wouldn't have it. So as pay back she made me suffer for 3 weeks, of nonstop whimpering every hour on the hour. Finally since last wednesday, she started sleeping through the night. I'm so happy and awake I can't describe the feeling. Your little baxter will get used it. Just put his crate in your bedroom and sleep near his crate. I think if they can hear you breath next to them, they are comforted by that. Worth a try, it worked for me.

| Our Yorkie is generally very good about sleeping by herself at night. She'll generally wake up around 6-7 and will start crying wanting someone to play with her or whatever. She sleeps in a crate just fine at night (we leave the door open because we know she usually has trouble holding it in at such a young age and she will start crying if she goes in her crate), but the crate is near the living room, there is a gate in front of the living room entrance so she can't actually get in. My mother will always fall asleep in the living room for about an hour with the TV on before finally retiring to bed. Sometimes the puppy will get anxious and whine if she wakes up and the living room is dark because she knows no one is in there anymore. So we will generally leave the TV on in the living room so if she does wake up momentarily, she will still think someone is in there and she'll go back to sleep. I also hear using a clock that ticks will help too, but I've never tried it. |
