Fustrated & need to vent I know there are tons of potty training threads on here, and trust me I have read them all, but I just need to vent a little. I have had Mickey for 4 weeks now. This past week, I finally felt that he was trained to go on the weewee pad. He went 5 full days with not one accident! Now all of the sudden last night he peed on the rug... right in front of us!!!! We said no, and put him on the wee wee pad. 15 minutes later he did it again!!! Later on in the night he went on the weewee pad, and we praised him and gave him a little treat as always... THEN what do you know... the second I turn away from him he has another accident! I was worried all night, I thought something must be wrong, he must not be feeling well. But then he made it through the whole night in his crate as always without having an accident in the crate. Peed as usual in the morning... next think you know he runs into the livingroom and poops in the middle of the floor....... Since Ive been home this evening he has peed twice where he is not suppossed to. He does it the second I look away. I know he is a baby (he is 13 weeks), but I just dont get why he was soooo good for 5 full days... not ONE ACCIDENT, went on the wee wee pad all by himself every single time and now he just wont. I'm very fustrated. I thought we were doing so good.... any words of wisdom?

still young he is still a baby. just keep working with him. I have a pee pad in my bathroom and often Hercules will go when I go, of course he uses the pad, wife wont let me use the pad. We have never had a yorkie so a lot of this is new to us. Our problem is Hercules does not like any other animals, he was kept locked in a small bathroom by himself and I dont think he learned to bond with other animals. He is very loving with people but wants to fight anything on four legs. He is about 7 mo. old now and we are at a lose as what to do to get him to like other animales. We have tried to take to friends houses but he wont be nice. My advice is the potty training will come soon with a little work, but let your dog also mix with others and learn to play and get along with other fourfooted friends. lots of luck Larry & Herk

Do you take him to the pee pad several times throughout the day just to make sure he understands? It's pretty common for them to do well for awhile and then kind of backslide. Your baby is very very young, so all I can recommend is lots of patience. Hang in there!

Just thought of something else. How often do you change the pee pad? I noticed that when my Jake was younger, he didn't like to use his pad if it had been used more than 3-4 times. I also remove his poop from the pad everytime he goes because if I don't, he won't use it. Last edited by SJK1113; 04-16-2007 at 06:35 PM.

| ....As I keep reminding people..... 1. tiny dog, tiny bladder, tiny bowels = accidents when they get "caught short" 2. they are not doing it on purpose, and at this age "forget" the correct place in all the desperation to go. 3. for the above reasons, never scold them, just praise, praise, praise, when they get it right. 4. remember that as they grow, they will more than likely ALWAYS have accidents, of both kinds, because of reason number 1. above, and they can go weeks and months with no accidents, then have one/two at once - always remember, never scold them, be forgiving - they are doing their best Lastly, GOOD LUCK with your precious Yorkie - they can do no wrong as they are too cute, lol !!! | Pretty much everything that Deb said, great points. Yes, Yorkies are very hard to train especially tiny Yorkies, but small dogs in general. A puppy at 13wks is NOT going to be potty trained even if he/she has made it for 5 days. That is just too young to fully understand. He probably did good because you were super attentive with it and then maybe got over confident and gave him more freedom when he really wasn't ready yet for that freedom. You must not give him free reign in your home unless you are watching every moment because as you know they can pee/poo in a split second and they sit so close to the ground it is hard to catch. When I hadmy first yorkie I teathered him to me as I walked around the house and I ran him to that peepad every 10 minutes. He ended up being 99pc housetrained but never quite 100pc. Go back to square one and start over and realize it is going to take a long time to get your dog to a reliable spot, but it will be worth it. Also, remember, even though you may be frustrated the dog is not going on the carpet to peeve you off or anything, he is just a baby. You can do this!! Kathy |
