| Very Stressed out please HELP!! My Yorkie puppy is 3 months. She has used her pad to relieve herself for the past four weeks. This week she keeps urinating on the floor and is eating her poop. I dont understand why she is doing this when I know she knows how to use her pad. I have a pad out for her and she is not using it at all. She keeps going on the floor I tell her no firmly and put her in her crate at night.I dont know what else to do and what is causing this behavior please help me!!

| Oh Hun, You've got a way to go. She is only 3 months old, she is still a baby. She can't possibly grasp potty training completely right now. Don't punish her instead keep her area small with her pee pads, water and food, she is way too young for too much freedom. I highly recommend, Lots of Postive Praise and a small treat reward for Good Potty behavior. This should reinforce using the pee pads. As for poop eating, there are lots of stuff to try. Do a "search" here on YT for Poop Eaters. You will find lots of stuff regarding that - Good Luck though, I have 2 Poop Eaters, they are now 2.5 years old. I have slowed it down, but I just can't seem to stop it completely -- grrrr, very fustrating! |

| I do give her treats everytime she goes on the pad I praise her as well. I guess I will have to wait and hope it gets better. Also whenever she meets anyone she gets excited and pees wherever she is example on the person, floor anywhere she has alot of mini issues.

| This is very normal behavior. She evidently does not know that it is wrong to pee in places other than the pad. It takes time and vigilance to teach them. Just because they use the pad does not mean that they know it is wrong to pee in other areas. and they may even be trained in the kitchen but not in the living room or bed room. To them, every room is an entirely new world. It takes some time for them to make the connection that any place other than the pad is wrong. You pretty much need to catch them in the act of going in various places and scare the them good, by yelling, clapping, stomping, shaking a can, blowing a horn, what ever, to let them know that they don't want to go in that spot again. But then it's "OK I can't go there, but what about over here?" after you catch them and startle them enough times, they sort of get the idea, that the only safe place is on the pad. Time and patience and a watchful eye. The bad part is they have to make mistakes before they learn. The good part is, the more frequently you catch them, they quicker they learn. |

| Oh Yes, Submissive Urination - Roxy is like that too! What I do is hold her when someone comes into the house. After a few mins. when they are settled, I put Roxy down and they my guest to not excite her to basicly ignore her, let her sniff and do her thing, and once she is calm, then people can gently approach her. It has taken 2 years, but what a difference. She went from ALL the time submissive pee to only once or twice in the past 6 months. |

It is best to ignore this completely and reassure her and as she gets older it should go away. | |

| My maltese does that submissive peeing thing too. She gets too excited when someone comes over, so I have to hold her until she settles down. Also, she does that when someone goes to pick her up...She's 9 1/2 months old, and we got her about 2 months ago...I think she gets scared because she's so tiny, she's afraid of getting hurt??

| I'm probably repeating myself here as everyone has given excellent advice. Correct, your puppy is too young to FULLY understand the whole potty concept. Yorkies in general (small dogs in general) can be a handful when it comes to training. It takes VERY persistant effort along with a strict schedule. Meaning if she has free run anywhere you need to watch like a hawk. Next, step up the pad to every 1/2hr put her on it. Play with her but make sure you are watching constantly. I don't even let my guy outa my site when I am going potty myself, either he is in the crate or with me in the bathroom! Keep your demenor as calm as you can (I know its hard and frustrating) keep your frame of mind in the dogs. Remember she is not trying to peeve your off, she is not "stupid", etc. she just really has no clue yet what it all means. Poop eating..Yep, to us gross..to them..delite. I try and either pickup right away (they are trained to outside) or I have been teaching my dog the command "leave it" whereas if they leave the poop then they get a toy or treat, it works 99pc of the time. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | So stressful, I know. Many of us have been there. One thing I'd HIGHLY recommend is S.E.P. (Stop Eating Poop) - I believe I got it online. It's a powder you sprinkle on their food and it literally stops them from eating their poop. Fabulous product!

| Good luck with housebreaking!!! It will take long time so get ready for a long way to go!!! My Momiji is 7.5 month old and she finally gets it now, except when her paws on paper but not her butt syndrome.... Sometime half and half.... Since we are in rental property, I'm not too worry about the mistake!!! (I'm planning to purchase steam cleaner in couple of month!!) Especially she is 97% accurate on pee business, but poop is little less, maybe 80% of the time she gets it right. But poop is much easier to clean!!! So be patient, your baby will get it someday. As for the poop eating, I am still working on that..... |

| I can definately understand your situation. My little one Penny went through the same thing. Especially for the first year and carpeting in my former apartment didn't help either to her regardless how many times I steamcleaned the carpet was like one huge wee wee pad. You definately want to be persistant with her potty training and know that she is puppy like a baby you don't expect a baby to know how to use the bathroom. So be patient right when she gets into position grab her attention quick and pick her up and move her. Also long walks also help to let them smell around and they will get the idea the more you making them run and exercise the more it makes them want to go. Also, the poop eating can be several things one it could be that she's sick, two she came from a puppymill or backyard breeder and it is just a behavior that she picked up which will take some time to get her out of it, I've done some research on this because my little one did the same thing and my s**t zu and didn't know why and these were the two most common reasons. |
