| Potty Everywhere! This training thing is killing me...I feel like I'm cleaning up and saying "No Potty" every few minutes. Now that Bentley has free reign of the house, he only goes when he's NOT in his area *kitchen*. He WAS doing so good, going on the wee wee pad. Now he just wont go on the wee wee pad anymore. I even purchased the Four Paws Potty Training Aid for his wee wee pad. I hope i havent scarred him for life.....will he EVER learn? Since I've posted this, he's gone twice. Why wont he just go when he's in the kitchen? He holds it until he gets into the living room. I'm so frustrated, and I bet he is too.

| I don't know your pup's age, but have you tried taking him for a walk?

| I don't know all your details, but it sounds like he isn't ready for full run of the house yet. Usually when I think my dog is ready I start out very small, like from the crate to the kitchen, from the kitchen to the kitchen and dining room and I extend the time out of the crate. This morning I gave my guy a chance to have run as he hasn't had an accident in over 3wks . I was getting ready for work and heard him whine but thought it was something else he waswhining about, came downstairs to find a little pretty package on my floor!! So, I just cleaned it up quietly and decided he is not ready yet to have freedom without me watching him. Hang in there and go back to restricted space for awhile. Kathy |

Do I just leave him in there until he's gone because he cant hold it anymore? Or do I let him out anyway knowing that he hasnt gone?

| I would assume you are not keeping him crated during the day? Keeping a pup contained ie kitchen or bathroom with a gate and piddle pad is necessary until they figure out the entire routine. Once they mark on the carpet or floor, they will return to the same spot. It takes time and patience before they are trusted to have free run. Honestly, I believe your pup is much too young to be considered house broken. There are excellent messages if you search on house breaking and wish you good luck. It will happen, so don't give up hope.

I agree - your pup is just too young to have full run of the house. Remember that once they get the idea of piddle pad training you can't just assume that they will run back to that area every time. Think about how small your pup is - literally get down on the floor at his level and view the space. It is HUGE by his view. Then when you give him even more space it is stressful to him. The way to reduce the stress is to keep him in a small, safe area until he is completely trained to that pad, then open another small area to him and keep taking him back to the pad. Then open up more space. Eventually he will be able to have full run of the house but it will take months - not weeks. The other issue is why would you allow a pup free run when he could chew on electrical cords, chew on furniture or baseboards. For his protection limit his area until he is mature enough to handle situations. Good luck!!
