| NEW Yorkie Mommy Needs Help! Hello. I am a new Yorkie Mommy and I need some help. I hear some great stuff on here, and everyone seems to have different suggestions for different situations. One of the suggestions for Potty training has been to stay on a schedule. I was wondering if anyone could kind of give me an example of one. I am home most of the time. I leave to go shopping or to take my boy to the library sometimes but usually not for more than 2 hours at a time. I can make my own but just wanted something to guide myself. The current situation= Holly has only gone on her pad twice. The first day I got her she went once because I placed a pad in her crate during the night. Then for two straight days she didn't do it on there once. I would stop her and pick her up when she would squat and she would still squeeze out a little. Then I put her on the pad and wait and she won't go. Later on, same thing. It seems she just did it little by little. I will wipe the little spots with the pad so that it can retain the scent of the urine and she doesn't catch on. She'll bring her toys and sometime even her food to the pad. Should I switch her to something else? Outside is not a good option for us. The other time that she made no.2 on the pad and I praised her and gave her a treat and then in 5 minutes she pooped again about 1 foot away from the pad. I turned away since I thought she was done. Please help. I may be over reacting since I have only had her since Saturday but she is 4 1/2 months and I don't want for her to get used to going where she pleases. Plus I don't see any progress and I've been working on it all day everyday since I got her. I'm desperate for some suggestions. I know I should be patient, but I just need some suggestions meanwhile I get a book sometime this weekend. Thanks in advance. Laura

| We have some of the same problems. Our puppy is almost 5 months old and still has not caught on to peeing on the pad. She did it the first week she was with us, and then last Friday she acutely peed on it all by her self. I take her with me to work sometimes and she has found her favorite place to relive herself so that is where I placed the pad. One of my customer's raises dogs on his ranch and recommended this stuff that smalls really bad but it worked that one time. It's put out by Four Paws and is called Puppy Housebreaking Aid. The Feed Store told me that it smalls like their mommy's pee. I use it inside and outside. She still has her mistakes but if you let them watch you put a few drops on the pad and maybe if you can on their noise it may reduce the accidents. She has been doing her no2 on the pads very well. |

| To me, "Stay on Schedule" means, take her out after waking up (the pup), take her out after eating, take her out after playing. Most puppies do the "potty dance" or the "potty trot" they start running around at a fast pace - soon as you see that - Take her out. Now by out, that can mean piddle pad or where ever you have designated as her special potty place. I have 4 potty "stations" in our house because for some reason two of my three Yorkies refuses to potty and poop in the same place. And Finally..... WELCOME to Yorkie Talk!

| We are successful with potty pads, thank gosh! We had trouble for awhile, but then we got some help and did the following... We picked the one place in the house that we wanted them to go to the bathroom, and then we COVERED the entire floor with puppy pads! If they had an accident (if we caught them) we'd hurry and say NO really dramatic pick them up and run them to the place they are supposed to potty that the whole floor is covered and say "Potty HERE!". They had their times of accidents and it took some time and consistency to catch on. Everyday you are supposed to remove 1-2 pads depending on the size of the room, and the consistency of the dogs, but leave the pads they have used. They always seemed to choose pads that were in a certain spot too. It seemed like no time for us after this, plus we did this at my parents house while we were there over Christmas break and it worked great. They also go outside sometimes, but only when we are on walks. When we block them in one room while we are gone they never potty in there. Any other time they have free run of the house and they always use the pads. We do have accidents here and there, but I think everyone does.

| Update on the potty training Well just an update on the potty training we have been using the Four Paws product called Puppy Housebreaking Aid and Amber has been peeing on the pads very well. The accidents are no more! I am so very prude of her and I do not have to clean up as much anymore. It's like she learned on her own! |

| Us Too! Congratulations. I know it's a big load off and that you feel very proud of your baby when they go and squat down on the pad. We have been doing very well also. Holly has not had an accident in about 2 days (knock on wood so I don't jinx it). I am very proud of her. I think I have scared her a couple of times cause I jump up and down and start praising her to no end. I have also been sticking to a schedule and more or less can tell when she needs to go. I also got her a new toy that keeps her very busy and she is a lot more active. I just love my little girl.

| I found some really good information about schedules at this link http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73403 Using a schedule reminds me that Sophie is still a puppy and if she has accidents it is usually because I didn't keep on the schedule. |
