| Little Biter! Well, Lil missy has been biting constantly (at our hands especially) lately and I am concerned that she'll continue to do this as if it is ok! Can it be that her teeth are bothering her, considering she is a puppy still? or she is just those ones t hat love to play rough (but doesn't know that) I am not sure how I can get her to stop, I do tell her No Missy! No! and move her away slowly but she begins to play and bite lol.... any advice? |

| During our puppy training class, the trainer said that if they bite, make a noise like yipping ("ow-ow-ow-ow" in a high pitched tone) the way they do when they get hurt. When they are little, they don't realize that biting you the way they bite each other during play actually hurts us. So if you make that noise, they seem to "get it." I tried it, and it does seem to work. |

Oh trust me, I've done that before.... i also pretend to cry, LOL she just gives me that weird look, with her ears twitching every second like "Huh" and then continues to go along and play, it's too cute, but I don't want it to be a habit for sure. My mom is a big chicken, so she will be disappointed to find out we got a biter in the house.

| Well, I was worried about it becoming a habit in our puppy as well, but I just kept on counteracting it either yipping or saying "no". I also made sure to distract her from biting as soon as I said "no" by squeaking one of her toys and throwing it so she would run to it instead of biting. And now she has grown out of the biting thing all together. So you may not have a "biter" on your hands. It may very well go away despite your worries if you just continue to counteract it. |

| Tina, this is very normal puppy behavior. They all do it. You want to have plenty of chew toys around. When Missy goes for your hand, substitute an appropriate item to chew on. When she bites hard enough to hurt, yelp or say "no", immediately break eye contact, stand if you are sitting, and turn your back on her and ignore her for about 15 - 30 seconds. After that, all is forgiven. She will soon learn that biting hard enough to hurt means that she loses what she wants most: your attention. It also teaches her "bite inhibition" - what amount of contact between teeth and skin is too much. That's an important lesson for puppies.

Excellent, thanks my mom is blaming it all on my dad that she bites, lmao, but clearly it is very normal and common for pups. Thanks

| I'm so glad too because Keely as of late has been biting like a mad woman. LOL! I just yelp and tell her no and then I put her down on the floor and ignore her until she comes back up to me without showing her lil teeth. At first I thought it was just teething too, but when I took her to the vet yesterday she said no she just needs to learn that biting isn't good. That link was very useful. Thank you for posting that!!
