| Pads get shredded, help HI, I haven't been on this forum since the fall (crazy school year) and Tiffany was only 3 months old. Now she is 10 months and such a big part of the family! She is doing great with her potty training. She uses pads and it has worked out well for us especially during the winter months. Here is our problem. When we are home with Tiffany she uses the pads, when we go out and leave her, she rips them up and we come home to a mess. We leave her with Kongs and treats to keep her occupied for awhile, but she must get bored while we are at work. Does anyone have a solution to this? JM |

| The only solution that I found to the pad shredding was to buy the reusable ones. I got mine at http://www.valethics.com They have new and reclaimed pads. I bought the higher quality used ones and am very pleased with them.

| You might try some double-sided tape on the edges of the pad for a couple of weeks and see if she looses interest after not being able to get them up. |

| THanks for the quick replies. I have tried taping down the edges with gaffers tape, but Houdini has ripped these taped pads also. I am not sure if the reusable pads will work either because any type of old mat, pillow or pad we have given her to lay on she rips ups. I think that she will do the same to this. Actually, today I came home and the rubber mat under her dishes was chewed in two of the corners. She has had this mat since day one and I was surprised that she decided to gnaw on it. She is such a good dog except for this problem. THanks JM |

| I bought some of those baby crib pads. when mine were young. I only have one that used a pee pad now and they are old enough that they dont try to shread the paper ones any more. sounds to me like this is what you need for the time being. (one you can reuse). sounds like she is getting bored and needs some new tough toys too.

| I'm having the same problem JM. My little Vinnie, 4 months old now, was doing so well with the pad, not so much anymore. When we're gone he uses the pad, when we're home he goes anywhere else. The biggest problem is he shreds the pee pads when we're gone, 2 days ago we came home and the pad was in tact, we thought he'd forgotten, and if that was the case yesterday he remembered to show that pad who was boss!! Now we did switch brands, the first pads we used were simple solution i believe, now we use arm n hammer, they're cheaper but not so easy to find around here. Maybe the change in pads??? He never tore up the first brand we bought, i'm at a loss, if you figure something out let me know and i'll do the same! Good luck! |

| I recommend the washable pads as well - they are really durable and will save you money in the long run. Oscar used to play with his pee pads (disposable) when he was bored, but since I switched to the washable pads, neither of my dogs bother with them - they use them for potty and that's it. It might be worth a try...

| I had to duct tape the throw away pads to the floor. All 4 corners! When she'd try to pull the tape up, I'd say "NO" in a stern voice. |

| My Yorkies only shred the potty pads that have baking soda in them. It is getting hard to find pads without baking soda. I have since gone to the washable type from valethics.com. They are a terrific company to do business with. |

| They also make some kind of a frame that you can put the pads in to hold them down. I don't use them but I've read about them on here. Try a search of the archives... or maybe someone that uses them will read this and let you know.

| I have a pee pad holder and our puppy never tries tearing up the pads. It's called Floor Protection Tray. We got it mainly to protect our carpet as the potty pad was between our kitchen and the dining room. We would find pee underneath the pad and realized that our carpet was soaking up the excess. But it locks the pads into the tray with a snap of the surrounding frame and prevents the puppy from being able to get ahold of the edges or being able to shred the pads. Anyway, here is the link to the one we bought : http://www.workingdogsweb.com/store/...ds_FT_650.html Last edited by Sweetums; 03-09-2007 at 08:43 PM. |

| My tinkerbell is doing the same thing-when my other yorkie did this, we started outside training... but------- tinkerbell just doesnt get it... why is it so hard with some dogs... she chases a leaf-a piece of dead grass, sniffs like crazy, but no pee or poo outside... she is in her kennel as we speak-I am trying the kennel and taking her out every hour on the hour-approach today... funfun for me. I hate it-she is so bummed-but, hopefully this will work. I am so afraid she is going to get some of that plastic bcking into her diegestive system and get sick-PLUS-I am ready for outside pottying... wish me luck.... |

| My yorkie went through the shredding stage and then she just stopped. Guess she outgrew it. We tried tapping it down and using the plastic thing that goes around it to keep in place. Neither worked, it just made her shred even more. Good luck! |
