Default Eating cat poop

This is the most annoying thing I have ever experienced. I can handle the constant accidents in the house despite taking her outside for 30 minutes and having her pee there and come back inside and do it in the house right in front of us.

But eating the cat poop is just gross.....it makes her breath smell nasty, so I don't want to snuggle with her. I'm afraid its going to make her sick. We even put the cat box up high and she somehow climbed into it and knocked the whole entire thing down. Now she is hiding cat poop under the furniture or in her cage.

Help....I'm really upset and at my whits end with this.

Yummy, cat poop! They all seem to love it.

What if you put a baby gate between your pup and the litter tray? Or, could you get one of those electronic self-cleaning litter trays?

How old is your pup? House training sometimes takes awhile, and LOTS of consistency and PATIENCE! Please, don't give up on her over this.

Now, as far as the cat poo eating - I can totally empathize with the frustration! We don't even have cats, but the ferrell cats in the area seem to think my backyard is a litter box. I can't even let Abigail out, because if there is any within her reach, she finds it and scarfs it down. EEEWWWWWWWWWW!!! Last time, I went in after it, scooping it out of her mouth. I always have to be ready to bathe her and - yes - I wash her mouth out with dog shampoo. It IS disgusting, and it CAN make them ill. Cat poo can be toxic to small dogs. And, no one seems to know why some of our furbabies love it, so. I agree that the self-cleaning litter box should help a great deal - I think that's a grand idea for anyone with dogs who take a liking to cat poo. It should take a lot of daily stress from your life, and protect the pooch.

Cat poop is at the top of Roxy's food pyramid. Bird poop is next in line. I had to put the litter box up so now she follows the cats around with her nose in their butts all the time. If they are laying down, she tries becomes a mobile butt cleaner. She digs it up outside (a little tougher now that the ground is frozen) and there's nothing I can do to stop her. We have to steer clear of the pond on our walks because of all the goose poop there - another delicacy. I understand it has something to do with the fact that they like cat food so much and if recycled is the only way to get it, well then, recycled it is. Good luck and I hope your baby outgrows it. I am still waiting for Roxy to.

If mine have a chance they will eat it too...I don't know why it is really gross but they love it....I put the boxes where they can't get them, but if they get a chance its like the biggest treat of all for them....

.... Yes! When Abigail barks at the cats outside, we imagine she's saying something like: "Gi'me that poo! Leave some over there!" LOL And, we've speculated that if she were out with them, she'd be following them around WAITING for the dropped treasure. *sigh*

Last week my son carried LillyBelle to me and said--"what does she have all over her face, nose and mouth?" I looked and said SHE'S BEEN IN THE KITTY BOX!! HER FACE WAS COVERED IN LITTLE BLUE/WHITE PEBBLES! Guess she ate the scented litter, along with the poopoo. She threw up all day and during the night, I had to give her sugar water to keep her from getting hypoglycemic-she just felt terrrible. The next day she could keep down some broth and finally after two days-real food. I had to treat her like a sick child. I always keep the kitty box scooped up, but I must have missed a "scooping, I got a short 3in box and put the kitty box on top of that in the laundry room, so she cant reach it now.

From my experience No they will not stop, if they can find poop they will eat it, be happy she doesnt eat her own. We no longer have a cat because of this. And as far as health concerns most farm animals, birds & ferrel cats carry coccidiosis & other diseases it will be very important to keep your dog wormed , I use albon to control the coccidiosis. It is transferred thru the poo this article helped me coccidiosis but use this for treatment/prevention if you choose to Albon 5% You can also just periodically take a stool sample to your vet to be tested for around $10 to make sure there are no parasites, no office visited needed so no $30 office fee . They all like the cat poo, I use to bring the litter box in the living room w/poo & then if they tried to get close scold them, thought it would help. I actually cut a little cat door so only the cat could get in, since before I would have to keep the door open for the cat-but a little dog can fit thru the cat door so...we no longer have a cat. I use to come home with cat poo & litter drug every where I would be so pissed. Then the neighbors cats crapping all in the mulch, we replaced all the mulch w/pea gravel which they will still crap in but I spray it w/some bleach water to keep them away. So even after rehoming our poor cat, then more work & money because of the neighbors cats, then a chainlink fence to help keep them away from bunny & deer droppings $cha ching$cha ching$. All the research & vet visits $ trying to figure out a way to keep them healthy w/o going broke. So I ask ya, do I love my yorkie, well do I ...punk-lol Darn this Cursed Yorkie Love Wish I had better news for ya. sounds like the auto litter box is a good idea, a gate maybe but some yorkies are climbers & then maybe a tie out in a designated area when she's outside to keep her away from the poo poo hot spots til you can figure something else out. Boy I'm windy tonight-sorry.

My toy poodle used to eat our cat's litter until I placed the litter pan in the bathtub where he couldn't get in. It was too slippery for him to jump over the tub - and he hated baths so he just wouldn't go there. You could try that.

You will have to ask your vet what worms are covered by that medication, maybe its on the packaging. I know tape worm usually isnt & coccidiosis which is another parasite isnt. Usually round & hook the 2 most common are, sometimes whipworms. Best to every couple months get a stool test done or at least if the poo looks odd at all. I'm glad it was helpful-I thought you might say jeez Rachel Hush If I can ever help I'm here.
