Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | sit / lay down is it just morgan or are there other tiny yorkies out there that immediately go into the lay down position when told to do either? i think its just easier for her since shes already so close to the ground. LOL i really have to work on getting her to distinguish between the two. so far she has three tricks down. sit (when she actually does it), down, and roll. so cute

| We just taught Punkin to lay and she sometimes gets lay and sit confused. She's not tiny, she weighs in at 8.5 pounds. What's really funny is that when she see's a treat she knows she has to earn it - she'll start in on her tricks and run through them automatically one right after another. It's soo sweet. So far she dances, sits, lays and shakes paw (my favourite).

Kalina, what you might try doing is "capturing" the behavior. As you see her sit, say "sit", then praise and treat. Also, you don't want to accidentally reward a down when you've given a "sit" command. Things like "you're so funny" said in a nice tone of voice might be interpreted as "you're so good".

| yeah, ours get those tw ocommands confused occasionally. it's something that requires repeats, every single day. If we skip 1 week, she forgets. keep at it and you will see results |

| OMG I know!! I was wondering the same thing about Pepper!! LOL, it's very funny, he does his 'prancing dance' once he sees me taking the goodie bag. Then I say SIT (and before I finish the word, his little butt is already parked solid on the ground). If I don't give his the treat immediately then, he does DOWN by himself.... Sometimes I say DOWN when he's standing, he lays down then. Or, sits, then lays down. But I try to not use those 2 commands right after each other... He's a little confused and sometimes lays when I say SIT.

| Mine is 2 lbs but it is very hard for us to get her to lay down whereas the sit command, which was learned first, is something she gets on a fly. I don't know how to approach laying down in the way that might distinguish it more from the seating. Also, since we are still on training, how do you teach a small yorkie to like her lead. My yorkie hates to be restrained. She will not move at all when she is put on a leash. She is the biggest bulker. I wonder if it is typical of smaller yorkies that are primarily carried around and not walked. How do you tackle it? |

with the leash problem: does your yorkie wear a harness or collar? i never had a problem with morgan and the harness/leash but i did have a problem when i hooked the leash to her collar. she bucked all over teh place and didn't have a clue why mommy was trying to lead her around by her neck LOL ( i usually don't use the collar. i just wanted her to get use to it for emergency purposes). try putting the harness and leash of her and letting her drag it around all day under supervision (you don't want her getting caught on anything when your not looking). if she plays dead with teh leash on then try to get her to do something she likes like fetch or tug of war, or just walk around to different parts of the house calling her and treating her when she gets to you.

| How old is your dog? Harley just has sit and lay. I try to teach him to still and he doesn't get it. I didn't know if he was to young to understand... He is so hyper, as soon as he sees a treat he goes crazy....LOL. He is 3 months.

| Mine is almost 12 weeks and learned down and jump right away but also confuses sit and lay down. Funny, she learns well but potty training is taking longer.

potty training is always difficult with these guys. I'd say morgan is about 97% housebroken. sometimes she can hold it for Hours while be out of her pen, and other time when i know she's gone about and hour or 2 before i'll find a present at the foot of the stairs. i don't know why she does it.
