| How Long Did It Take to Potty Train? I feel like such a failure! My little Angelica is almost 11 months old and she still has one or two accidents in the house every day! Is this normal? I take her out at least 5 or 6 times per day and I have a dog walker come in once a day while I'm at work. She is great about not going in her pen where she stays while I'm not home, and she does her business fairly quickly when we go outside. I think she should be having a lot more "accident free" days than she does. Am I expecting too much at this point? HELP!!!

| I am so sorry to hear this for you because I can sympathize. I LOVE my two to death but seriously I was in tears today because they are just so out of control. I do not understand how they have not gotten hang of the potty outside thing. I do the same crate during the day while I am at work and than take them out but they still have accidents in my house. WHY????? UGH!!!!! My little boy is 13 months old and my little girl turns one on Monday. I am seriously thinking it is always going to be like this. Sorry...wish I had something positive to share with you but I am in the same boat.

My advice is to give her the opportunity to go every hour, when she isn't crated. Either outside, or on pee pad. If she doesn't go, wait 10 mins and try again, until she goes. Eventually she'll get so used to going where you want her to, she won't go elsewhere. And she won't have so many accidents, because she won't be holding it in very long. I did this with mine until they were about 18 mos. old and now they are fully trained. Some pups take longer than others to train. Good Luck!

| Trained since 4 months...took about a month! heres how! Chewy is 81/2 months old... He only goes outside and he goes with in 3 min or less!(no kidding!) Here is how I did it. 1. I bought a baby play yard-I think it's the same as an ex-pen but plastic... 2. Put little rocks in side so he couldn't dig and get dirty every time he went potty! And I lined the edges with bricks...(He likes to step up on the bricks when he is done! MY friend's Yorkie does this too!) 3. Put a few leaves on the rocks to hold the smell so they get the idea! Or transfer some of the stuff from where he has been potting so he knows what to do! 4. Take your baby out at least every hour to try... Chewy goes just about every time we take him out... I tell him to potty.. go Pee or Poopie! I also started off giving treats till he got the idea. 5. Watch your Yorkie nonstop when he is in the house and the second you see him start to go... say (don't yell) No no no no..quickly take him out to his POTTY! Chewy got the idea that going in the house wasn't ok after doing this about 4 times!!! Before that I would just clean up the mess and not say anything but I don't think he realized it was any problem!!! Before I took my friends advice and did this play yard thing I would walk Chewy and he WOULD NOT GO! He sniffed EVERYTHING!!! But never took the time to go potty! Then would go inside... I was at my wits end. I think the thing about them having a potty place is there is nothing to sniff... once they sniff it out in the beginning it is always the same! If Chewy doesn't go within 5 min we go back inside.

| Gracie is finally wee wee pad trained and she also goes outside as well. But before she was fully trained I bought a dog diaper from Petco and put it on her. She refused to potty or poop in it so when she had to go she would come to me! This was helpful to me because it cut back on accidents and also it taught GRacie that when she needed to do her busy she needed to tell me! I would suggest maybe buying the diapers and then taking them out on a schedule....that will help you with the accidents and maybe they will move along a little better in the training! Go fetch.com has some very cute panties for dogs....They are adorable!

| Lillybelle was alittle over a year before she was 100%. Even now she goes out about every two hours during the day, but she does sleep all night without going out. |

| We have a 4 1/2 month old female. She rarely has accidents in the house at this point. It does happen occasionally, but not near the frequecy as previously. How we did it: Our pup (Bonita) has no unmonoitored access in the house. If she is inside, she is either with someone or inside her crate. When she is outside of the crate she goes out every 90 minutes or so. When she was younger, it was every 30-45 minutes and we have gradually lengthend the time. When we are out and she goes, she gets praise and then we promptly go back inside. This is to indicate to her that if she wants to go back inside, she must first go pottie. We also take her to the exact same location in the yard to go. We only take her to this area of the yard when it is time to pottie. This has worked for us...may not work for everyone, but good luck with it. |
