| Bathing & Blow Drying - Help Needed Whenever I try to bathe Woody, he freaks out in the sink. He goes absolutely crazy. Then he does the same thing when I am trying to blow him dry. I use a soft soap, lukewarm water from the spray nozzle, and there is another towel in the bottom of the sink to help him keep his footing. He refuses to calm down until I am almost through bathing him. The we start the fight all over again when I try to blow him dry. He triest o escape me. I use the dryer on the coolest setting - it literally blows out cold air - and I go slow so as not to startle him. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can make bath and grooming time easier? All help is appreciated! |

| I would say go slow and make a game out of it. Find a rubber squeaky ducky to join him in the sink. Keep lots of treats near by and praise him when he acts as he should. He might feel a bit more secure and he might be easier to control if you put him in a bathtub until he gets used to the baths. Rather than a towel, I use a rubber mat in the sink. I bought one of those vinyl shower mats with the suction cups on the bottom and cut it down to fit my kitchen sink. I cut a hole in the middle so the drain stopper would fit. It works great. The cold dryer might be chilling your baby. I use medium heat on a slow setting with Gracie and she loves the warmth. For your baby, you might just start with the bath and let him air dry. When he gets used to that, you can introduce the blow dryer again. Have him join you in your bathroom when you are using the dryer on yourself, to show him that it is not a scary thing.

| I started putting mine in the shower with me after I get through. Seems they tolerate it better, and faster than the bathtub. I never did the sink, as I'm so afraid of them jumping off the counter. After I get them out, I have the bathroom door closed when I start blowdrying. Both of mine like to move around in the bathroom when I blow dry them. I just follow them with the dryer, and make good and sure we have the door closed so they can't escape. Seems everyone here has a different method. I used to bathe both of mine in the tub, till I saw several here that put theirs in the shower. I tried the shower and its much faster. |

| I talk to mine in a baby voice and give them kisses while they are in there and constantly tell them good girl, good boy and that seems to calm them down.. Hope this helps!!! Oh, and I dry mine by letting them sit on a blanket in front of an electric heater, watching them of course.. They LOVE it

| I am sorry you are having troubles, No advice as Grayson loves his bath and anytime the hair dryer is on he comes running for a blast of air. Sounds like some great advice! I may just use a bath mat in my sink as well

| I'm a "take the dog in the shower with me too" person and it works out great. Very fast and efficient with no mess. I wouldn't blow cold air on him though. You need the fast blow with medium temperature. He may never love it, but you'll get through it. |

| How old is he Time and patience is about the only thing. My still do not like baths but they tolerate them. I use a grooming arm clamped to my counter top to hold them for brushing and blowdrying |

| I don't really have any advice on bathing, Thumper hates it too. He also hates the blow dryer so i can't get him totally dry. But he loves it when i warm a towel in the dryer and after the bath i put it around him and just hold him for a while. Last night he fell asleep like that. I like the thing about putting a rubber ducky in the tub with him and giving him treats. I'm going to try that! Last edited by jen8203; 12-30-2006 at 06:12 PM. |

I would love to put mine in the shower, but I think they would freak out, and, I know this is goofy, but I am afraid of them getting water in their eyes or nose How did it go the first time you put yours in the shower? | |

| Pretty well actually. I have one of the hand held shower sprayers, so I could control where the water went, being careful of the ears. I'd been bathing mine in the tub a long time, since I didn't want to put them so high up on the kitchen sink. I really loved the shower idea, and so far, its worked out great. Only problem I had is they want to get dried off before I can dry myslef off |

| My Dollie isn't crazy about her baths but she tolerates me...HA HA. I make certain the water from the spray isn't loud and is warm, not hot...please just pleasant. And I put a little rubber mat down so she doesn't slip or slide while I am bathing her. I talk to her and when she gets a little squirmy I tell her in a firm voice "No No" Dollie's a good girl.... and so forth. I let her know I will be done in a little while and I let her shake when ever she wants. Then I make certain the towel is in the dryer and warm. I put her in it and I hold her for about 20 minutes while I clean up my bath mess and then I rock her and we have a little close time. She takes a short little nap and then we go to a warm room to blow dry. She doesn't care for it but she once again will stay still. When she moves I grab her and show her who is boss and tell her ....No in a firm voice. I would never use a cold dryer on her. Just us the warm but don't put it totally close to her. It will get the job done. But be patient...Dollie is 2 and I have been bathing her since she was 12 weeks. The groomers just love her because they say she is so good. Who knows....Good Luck

| Cookie, cookies and more cookies. I used to sit on the floor with a long extention cord on my blow dryer everytime I got out of the tub. I would shoot them like a target game and each time I got them I offered a cookie. The drier goes on and they all come running but of course mine love their cookies too much to resist. The little Starr comes running now and I don't give her cookies yet. She just comes running because she sees the other 2 doing so. I also use a groomer every 8 weeks, so I only do one bath in between. I can never get their hair as striaght and glossy as she does. I guess I don;t blow dry it right I was thinking of taking a grooming class now that I have 3, when my idea was to have 1, well affording the groomer was not a problem! Good Luck gaming it Just so you know cookies worked well with the brushing too. After we are all out and dry, they fight over who gets brushed first now. (Chloe is 1 and 3 months, Sissy will be one in April. Starr growls at me when I try to wash or brush her but she likes the blow drier game.
