| Thanksgiving at relatives = pees all over I've potty trained my 3 month old Yorkie fairly well on the wee wee pads at my house. She knows where to pee and poop. But when I was over at my mom's house for Thanksgiving she pooped and pee'd whereever she felt like. Even when I confined her with her pee pee pads, she pooped on the carpet by the door. I'll be at my mom's house for a good week, what is the best way for her to learn to potty on her pads? |

| She might just be too young to generalize that a pee pad is to be used for that purpose no matter where she is. Gracie is 6 mo. and she would rather 'hold it' than use a pee pad in my bedroom at night. To her, the only place to use a pee pad is in her ex-pen. I took her to a friend's house for Turkey Day yesterday. We left the pee pads at home. I just took her outside every two hours and she went pee on her own just fine. She held the pooh until she got home to her pee pad. Short answer after long story, just take her outside and encourage her to potty every two hours. Also keep showing her where the pee pad is and correct her if she has an accident.

| If you confine her with wee pad, its better to do it in an area without any rugs or carpet. Just floor with wee wee pad because they will be confused when they have a choice of wee pad, rug and carpet to pee on.

| Dogs (especially puppies) don't generalize well. Your pup may understand that "I use this pad in this house to potty", for instance, but doesn't understand that "this pad" also applies to "this other house". Go back to the very beginning with your pup in any new environment - ie containment, constant supervision, redirection when inappropriate, and most importantly, praise and treats for getting it right. Take heart: it shouldn't take long before it clicks with your pup "OH! I use this pad in this house, too! Got it!"
