| Potty Training!! please help........ Please help!! So I have 2 pups one is a 7 month old male, the other is a 2.5 month old female.. They wont potty train.. I have them in two separate pins and they pee on their pads and everwhere else.. I am getting SOOO frustrated. Our house smells like a toliet! They pee outside if you take them out. They pee on a pad if you put them in a small area with the pad, and they pee on the couch all the time! luckly its leather, they pee on the bed, and ALL over the carpet! help! why wont they just pee on the pads only. I want to get rid of the pads and have them hold it till i take them out, but then they pee in thier crate and i come home to a smelly pup, the crate is small too, i have tried everything im lost....... ANY advise????? |

| Might not want to give them as much room to roam till they "get it" with the pad training, and outside training. I kept Venus in an ex-pen. When she got the potty training, in that, I expanded it a little further....just the kitchen area. Make sure the crate isn't too large. Just enough room to stand and turn around. I wouldn't leave them in the crates more than 3-4 hours at the very most at one time. Venus messed her crate up that first week. I keep her crate beside my bed at night. When I first hear her whimper....we go directly outside. It don't matter what time it is. Took her about a week to learn, that if she wimpered at all...we were going outside, pronto. Even if she messed her crate up...we still went outside. I just added the living room at times to her "ok" area. When she has accidents, I spray them immediately with a solution of 1/2 white Vinegar, and 1/2 water. That neutralizes the smell. Then I use the carpet cleaner on the spot. Getting that urine smell out so they won't go back to the same spot. If you don't get the smell out, they will keep going in the same spots. I've also heard of some here that put the dog on a leash, and tie the leash to their pants. That way they know when the dog is sniffing, looking for a potty place, and can take them to the pad, or outside. Watch for signs of them needing to potty. A #2 they will do the circle thing. For a #1 they sniff a lot. Take them outside or to the potty pad when you see them do either. If they have an accident, I take it one step backward to where they were before I gave more "roaming rights". I also looked through every post for replies on this board to potty training and got a lot of tips that way too! I found everything I was going through, someone else has also been through the same thing! I try to take Venus to the kitchen where her potty pads are about every hour. Especially if we've been in the living room. If I stay in the kitchen with her for a few minutes she will pee on the pads. Now #2, we're still working on! |

| The 7 months old should be starting to get it. The 2.5 month old won't be able to hold it more than a few seconds after she thinks she needs to go. If they are going on the bed and couch you need to restrict those areas. Crate train for sure. You are confusing them by taking them outside, taking them to pads, etc. Do not leave them unsupervised unless they are in their crates. They will not learn to go in the spot you want them to go unless you reinforce it every time. Crate them, take them out and go immediately to the desired spot, wait for them to go, then give them a really good treat. Repeat 100 times and they will get it.

| Chewy is 6 1/2 months old... He only goes outside and he goes with in 3 min or less!(no kidding!) Chewy is not neutered yet... Here is how I did it. 1. I bought a baby play yard-I think it's the same as an ex-pen but plastic... 2. Put little rocks in side so he couldn't dig and get dirty every time he went potty! And I lined the edges with bricks...(He likes to step up on the bricks when he is done! MY friend's Yorkie does this too!) 3. Put a few leaves on the rocks to hold the smell so they get the idea! Or transfer some of the stuff from where he has been potting so he knows what to do! 4. Take your baby out at least every hour to try... Chewy goes just about every time we take him out... I tell him to potty.. go Pee or Poopie! I also started off giving treats till he got the idea. 5. Watch your Yorkie nonstop when he is in the house and the second you see him start to go... say (don't yell) No no no no..quickly take him out to his POTTY! Chewy got the idea that going in the house wasn't ok after doing this about 4 times!!! Before that I would just clean up the mess and not say anything but I don't think he realized it was any problem!!! 6. Chewy is in a create when no one is home or when we can't watch him... He also sleeps in the create at night. Before I took my friends advice and did this play yard thing I would walk Chewy and he WOULD NOT GO! He sniffed EVERYTHING!!! But never took the time to go potty! Then would go inside... I was at my wits end. I think the thing about them having a potty place is there is nothing to sniff... once they sniff it out in the beginning it is always the same! If Chewy doesn't go within 5 min we go back inside.
