| Why won't he potty train?????????? 10months old and he still thinks he can poop whereever he pleases! Everytime he starts sniffin in circles and bends over to poo I hurry up and put him outeside, but he poops as I carry him and it leaves a trail! He refuses to pee in the house and can hold his pee, but he won't even bark if he has to poop! He did it again last night and I've had it! He no longer has run of the house. If he's not with me or my bf, eating or sleeping, he's in the crate. I don't know what else to do. I feel bad leaving him in his crate (my bf doesn't even think I'll go through with it) but I really am stuck. Anyone have any advice? After we take him outside for pooping, if he gets atleast one poop outside we praise him and give him treats. When he poops inside we tell him "No, bad dog" in a stern voice. I don't know if he's not getting it, or is just stubborn. I'm pretty sure he knows to not poop in the house though because when he does it he runs and hides right away. He is stubborn on other training, so that could be it. Can anyone please help! I'm desperate.

| Thats how my puppy was he is 4 months now and what i did to get him use to peeing or pooing in the pads was i put him in a baby crib basically a small place where he doesnt have freedom to do whatever he wants..i put the pad on one side and his food and water on the other along w/ his bed next to it and he learned that hes suppose to go on the pad. When i barely got mine at 7 wks.. he never ever went on his bed or near his food so i used that for my advantage when i put him in the crib and now when i am not home i leave him in one of my extra rooms with all his toys and bed etc. and i keep the pad next to the door and he always goes on it hes is like 95% trainned on it..the only time he goes on the floor is if he has peed around the pad and he cant find a clean part to pee or poo at on the pad and well thats my fault for letting him drink as much water as he wants. Try doing that and confining him for awhile until u see he has gotten used to the scent of the pad..Let me know how it goes...P.s. i never used the crate because i felt it was too small and i dont like the idea of him being stuck in a closed place w/ pee and poo and his food and water in there...

| To us it seems logical that if they know where to pee, they should know to poop there also. to a dog they are two separate functions. A couple of things you mihgt try if you aren't already doing it. Is to feed fat the same times every day and no free feeding. then watch for a pattern as to how soon after eating he poops. My guys are usually pretty predictable. I give them canned food fin the morning and in the evening, and shortly afterwards they poop. If you have a fenced area you might also try a doggie door. that made all the difference in the world for my two. |

Loki was the opposite of your pup. He would only poop in the house if he had diarrhea or something, even as a pup he would ask to go out for that. But he'd pee on the floor forever. He ended up having a bladder problem. So, it's not unreasonable to ask the vet...

Yeah I am starting to wonder if he has a problem. When we first got him @ 5months, he was totally trained! He barked to go outside for both. Then it was like he got lazy, or just didn't care. He started doing both inside. So we got him after a few weeks, to finally pee outside and he's soo good with it. Were using the same training tactics with pooping, so I wouldn't think I'm doing something wrong since it worked with him peeing. But I guess I am. I couldn't imagine having him pee in the house! The poo is so easy to clean up, but pee OMG. And his pee is really smelly...yuck!

Yup and I get his attention and point to it and praise him. I also tried putting the poop on the pads. Also at my moms house, Gizmo goes in a dog run on the side of the garage. There was always poop in there (not a lot, just like a day or twos worth then it would get cleaned). Rocky would go in there every morning, lunchtime, and before we went home. He would even watch Gizmo poop in there, and see me praise Gizmo (even though Gizmo is potty trained). He would still poop in the house.

Does that work for poop too? I'll definitly give it a shot. I'm now looking into more "tricks and solutions" then just training techniques, because I think we've ran out of them. Here's something else: For PJ's he sometimes wears baby onseys (sp?). These don't have an opening in the bottom of them either. More than once he has pooped in them! Then he still walks around with the poop hanging in the onsey until I catch it. I know it's not funny, but it's like "Rocky pooped his pants" and I can't help but crack up, I'm laughing even as I type this! But this is how complicated it is. You would think if the poop was stuck on him he would somehow tell me, or act different, but he doesn't! Edit: I re-read your post and saw that it does work for poop

The other thing I'm thinking is that if he is running and hiding maybe he is afraid of your reaction or something? Honestly, I'd go back to potty training 101. Crate him for a long while, then take him outside and wait for him to go. When he does, give him the best treat ever and act like he is the best dog in the whole world. Something didn't click with him or he is afraid of something. Beyond a medical problem where he can't hold it, that's all I can suggest. But honestly, try the walk. We always carry multiple poop bags on our walks and Loki is literally pooped out when he gets home!!

| OMG! I took him outside today after lunch for awhile, he peed and that was really it. Finally we come back inside to take a shower. As soon as he gets in the shower he hunches over to poop! I grabbed him, ran to the toilet and held him over the toiled so his poop could land there. He got one in, then started squirming so I put him on the floor and he finished. I wasn't about to run outside naked, LOL. Then when he got out of the shower HE PEED on the rug! I think that's just because he hates the shower though. I couldn't believe this. My boyfriend just now got home from work, so were definitly going to get that training aid from petsmart in a few minutes.
