| Crawl: Lure her under a small chair or stool that she will be forced to crawl under to get the treat. Stay: Have her sit before you put her food bowl down. Tell her Stay. Slowly lower the food bowl. If she gets up, lift the food bowl higher and then ask her to get back in a sit. Repeat 15 times until they figure it out.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | My .02: When you're first teaching tricks, ALWAYS use treats. Don't practice them if you don't have any. They should be tiny and something she doesn't have to chew, chew, chew. Some people use cheerios, which is a great idea and cuts down on the calories. You might think about an obedience class for sit, down, stay, come, heel, etc., but also search this forum for the word "tricks." Here's one post I found that taught my guy how to crawl: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ighlight=crawl Another easy one (usually!) is spin. Say the word spin, then hold a treat to the side and then behind their head so they have to follow it. When they do it right, praise, praise, praise and treat. Once they get that, you can do "other way." One of the best trick-teachers on this forum is FirstYorkie, and she swears by the clicker method of instruction. You might search for clicker and read any of her posts.

| First, I swear by hand signals. Emma can do all of her tricks now with just the verbal or just the hand signals. We usually give her both at the same time to make things easier. (Lie) Down: We taught Emma "down" on a wood floor. It was much easier for her to SLIDE from sit to down! She learned this in 10 minutes, in one day. No kidding! Shake: we would just grab her paws and do it, then reward her. Wave: Wave at her, then take her paw and wave it. We use the opposite of the one she "shakes" with. Roll over: Get her in "down" and then hand signal for "over", and then roll her to one side. Immediately treat once she's over. Bang! (play dead): Hand signal has GOT to be the air gun... Easily mastered after roll over-just get them to stop and freeze, then treat! You can extend the length of time she has to stay on her back after she gets it. Impressive party trick! Walk: My husband taught her this one in a night. Get her to stand on hind legs by luring with treat. Once mastered, do the same thing, only hold the treat out in front for a few steps. Bingo! We're walking! Stay: We use a full palm out hand signal for "stop". We have her sit or lie down, and then say stay. Then we walked away a few feet, and rewarded her for staying put. Only walk as far away as she'll stay put for the first few times. Now we can get out of the room and out of sight, and she'll stay. |

| lol, Look up Swee Pea and Alex Rothacker on the internet. He's my boss and he just took a few other Guiness World Records just recently in France. Your "tricks" can be limitless, it all depends on your method of training! |

| Massage Method!!! My dogs sometimes expect a treat, but I know a GREAT alternative. It works all the time for me! After your dog does a trick correctly, massage their shoulder muscles, their chest area, and on either side of the spine. Gently coo to them "good boy" or "good girl" or whatever you use. I swear by it! When you massage your pet correctly, you'll know. They will squint their eyes and kind of go into a daze. It relaxes them and stimulates blood flow making them more alert and able to learn faster. I taught my two year old chihuahua to play dead about a month ago using this method. I taught my other chihuahua, one year, to shake, also using this method. It took the younger one less than a week to master this trick and the older one about twice that long. Your babies die for your attention, and they absolutely love massages. Trust me! Try it. You'll get good results. |
