| My dog is a bully!! So today I had a booth set up at a Fall Festival, and of course had to bring Stump along as a model! Anyway their were lots of people and actually quite a bit of dogs. And Stump loves people! He is the nicest dog in the world, to people of all ages. BUT when it comes to another dog he would go crazy!!! He would start barking and trying to jump out of my arms! He even was sitting on the table and JUMPED off to growl at a pug!! I felt so bad and so embaressed and I don't know why he is acting like that!! He hasn't been around a whole lot of dogs before. He has sniffed some of the dogs in the neighborhood and been nice to them, but he was in non stop attack mode today!! He also has been to Doggie Day Care but they said he just played with the Humans not the dogs. I don't know what to do because I really want to take him to the shows and stuff I have, but he needs to be nice or else he can't go. I feel horrible because he was scaring some poor little puppies!! How can I keep him from being a meanie?! |

| Loki is a total nerd around dogs. He doesn't know how to act and he will randomly think another dog is going to eat him. We do doggie daycare once a week and he plays with the big dogs. He kinda throws a tantrum when I drop him off but the trainer says he's good after I leave. He has pretty much figured out they are not going to eat him. (He does way better off leash, in the right environment with the right dogs I just drop his leash and he does FINE. On leash he gets scared.) We also take training classes even though Loki is pretty well trained just so we can work on him focusing on me when other dogs are around. We also walk the neighborhood and practice "polite" greetings of other dogs. I would definately consult a positive reinforcement trainer because we have seen a HUGE improvement in Loki - we've just had to do a lot of work!

If he isn't actually trying to attack (bite) other dogs, probably the more time that he spends around other dogs, the better he will behave with them. It would also be very worth your time to take him to an obedience class. Besides, they're fun!

I have thought about taking him to Petsmart classes, but do they have ones for stubborn 1 year olds? Stump has tons of problems, and I know they gurantee the training so if he starts doing it again they will train him for free. | |

| You would sign up for "beginner" classes not puppy classes. Petsmart is fine but if you need more in depth training here is a list of CPDT's - certified pet dog trainers. This is what my trainer has and she also has a master's degree in animal behavior. Her 8 week class is only $10 more than Petsmart, and it's SO worth it! http://www.ccpdt.com/rstr/TN.html
