How the heck to I house train my girls!! The are BOTH a year old... I think I can do the crate thing... They are both crate trained.... But would someone walk me through it??? Someone that did it and had it work.... I'm afraiD that they will be in a crate ALL day...??? But at this point, they almost deserve it! I don't really mean that... I'm just pissed.... I can't afford to keep doing this... but its so gross to have them going IN THE HOUSE! ugh! And my daughetr has a sleep over for her birthday comming up next weekend... the last thing I want is all of her friends saying that they had to sleep in dog pee! Not cool at all! yikes! So help me fix it guys... what do I do???? Pixie is a master climber and jumber, gates and pens do NOT work with her! I think crating is my only option with her...

| Wish I could help....Sadie uses the pads. Rarely have an accident on the carpet anymore. I keep her in the bathroom (no carpet) when I am at work so she can't get into any trouble. Most days she holds it all day until I get home from work.

| We did the crate and it worked great - Loki still loves his crate. I say "crate" and I think a lightbulb goes off in his head and he thinks "Oh good a nap!" I assume you want them to go outside? And if they are already crate trained then they are not peeing in their crates, right? Basically you crate them and then let them out to pee. It helps to take them out on leashes so you just stand in one spot and then give them a REALLY good treat when they go - a treat you don't give them any other time. When you are SURE they are empty then let them run around for 30 mins or so and then back in the crate until the next time they need to go out. You'll do this boot camp style for about a week or two and then increase the free time outside the crate. IF one of them pees on the floor and you see them - startle them! (Like say "AACCKK") and pick them up and IMMEDIATELY go outside. Praise them for finishing but then put them BACK in the crate. They will learn that peeing outside = free time and peeing inside=time out. Does that make sense??

| When I crate trained the boyz I kept them in their crates for about an hour at first, then take them out to potty, bring them in and play for a few minutes and then back in the crates. As they got better and a bit older I kept them in for longer periods, then out to potty, bring them in and play a bit and so on. They slept in their crates at night also. I kept them in the living room with us so they could see and hear us and they wouldn't feel abandoned in another room. I do keep a pad in a litter pan inside for emergencies when we're gone and they use that but other than that they're good. Good luck with your girls. |

| Any time I leave the house, they are in the crates, they walk right in... they know what up.... No mater how short the trip, they are NEVER left unattended out to roam..... At night... pixie sleeps in a bed next to my bed, and paris is in our bed now that giz is gone, she was in the bathroom with a gated door and a doggie door, they never had accidents, they KNOW HOW THE DOGGIE DOOR WORKS!!! they go out to play and run INSIDE TO PEE!!!! boy it pisses me off! anyway... the Main prob is Pixie... she has always been the master escape artist... you cany gate her in... so she went where ever she darned well pleased! Cause she could... So I have decided that they will be crated at night now too... most of the pee is in the bedroomand living room... the two rooms with flippen DOGGIE DOORS!!!! What gives!!!!! As far as Paris... Its fals Preg or its Way early??? Still not sure??

| You might try letting them go out through the doggie door and then closing it so they can't come in until they go potty. I did that with the boys when we first got the door and it helped. |

| OK I think I know what will solve your problem. Because you have dog doors - you are not actually following them outside to reward them for peeing outside. You need to take them outside either on leashes or not, but you need to start taking them out, say every hour at first. Wait for them to pee and give them a treat immediately. Teach them what "go potty" and "outside" means. I will ask Loki "Do you need to go outside?" and he will run over and ring his bells if he needs to. So you can start to ask the girls if they need to go out and then encourage them to use the dog door (try putting a treat on the other side). Then you transition to giving them a treat when they come back in. I used to walk all the way outside with Loki and give him his treat as soon as he finished. Now I stand inside while he goes out on his flexi then he bugs me for his treat once he's back in the house.

| ok... bells... I need to work the bells into this.... so that once they are on their own... they can ring the bells to let me know they need to go if for any reason the door is closed... they get closed at night... So hang bells by the doors??? And I go out with them now as it is... they screw off and run back inside to pee... nice huh? Having them on a leash is a GREAT idea!!!! Who sells show leads??? Or just simple slip leads?? they would be easy to use for quick trips outside.... Putting a fullblown harness onn seems like a lot of work at 5am.... which is the first bathroom run in the am... yikes! Soooooo I'm thinking Crate training... back to basics.... how often do we go out?? and how much free time do they get after they go??? I free feed.... so when do they eat???? How does that all work????

| I don't free feed - Loki eats twice a day, therefore he poops twice a day - once in the morning and once after he eats dinner. That's helpful because he goes before I go to work and then when I get home. With 1 yr olds I'd go out every hour for a week then every 2 hours. I'd give 30 mins free time/30 mins crate then increase to an hour each. If they start having accidents go back to 30/30. BTW if they don't pee outside it's BACK in the crate... If they aren't going every hour then switch to every 2 hours. My guy could pee every 15 mins so... it depends. I just put a leash on Loki's collar when I just let him out to pee, but use a harness for walks. I've seen the step in style leash/harness all over, even Petsmart.

| Getting carpets cleaner I have Bissel carpet cleaner. It was about two hundred at Target. I love it!!! If there is a spill or acciedent I go grab it out of the closet and clean away. I know it is kind of expensive but I bet in the long run it work be cheaper than having people come out to do it. It really does a good job and they have a kids and pet formula. I hope this helps. Good luck with the potty training.

| We had a brand new house with white carpet when we got Loki (Don't ever pick your carpet out from a 3"x3" square you will not get the right color!) Anyway we bought a $70 Bissell "Quicksteamer" and it's AWESOME. I can do a spot FAST and it's very small but still an upright so I don't have to bend over. You can't do the whole room with it, but it works great for spills (me) and messes (Loki). The worst mess is dog puke. I have gotten every dog stain out of my white carpet except where Loki puked something orange.

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | FYI- every puke stain I've ever had whether it be cat or dog, Oxi cleans ALWAYS takes the stain right away. I mix the powder in a bottle with water and keep it handy at all times. hasn't failed me yet! |
