| One person dogs Rocky is totally a one person dog, and that one person is me! Seems good huh? Well he's starting to "fight" my bf over me. Yesterday we were all sitting on the couch watching t.v and Rocky was on my lap. All of a sudden he went to bite off my bf's finger! My bf moved his hand right away and didn't get bit, thank God! A few days ago he tried biting him too. Rocky is still going through is nipping phase when he plays, so I'm working on eliminating that, but how do I get him to accept others? He spends a lot of time w/ my boyfriend, I mean he is Rocky's daddy and all. Anyone have any advice? He's also tried nipping at our sisters and moms when they pick him up. I thought maybe he just didn't want anyone to hold him besides me and my bf, but now I guess he only wants me.

| I have been here too ... I have been here too, although not quite the same. My oldest Max (who sadly is no longer with us) was a real Mummies boy. Although he loved my husband too. Levi who is 9.5 is a Daddies boy, although he is very affectionate to me too. My new puppy Teddy who is almost 9 weeks will be a Mummies Boy we feel. When Max was with us, he would put himself in between us if we went to have a cuddle. Many would say it is wrong and we should of trained him out of it. BUT we always included him in all cuddles, He would do what we said and was eager to please. But if someone took my attention for too long, he would start making little noises to remind me he was there, and was watching. I guess it depends on what you want in the future. There are some great people on the forum that can offer good advice on how to deal with this. |

I don't mind if he's a momma's boy! I just don't want him to be mean. When I'm not available to play and take care of Rocky, my bf does. He's my backup, lol. Rocky just seems to be very protective of me. If my bf vacuums and I'm there, Rocky barks at the vacuum, but if I'm not there he ignores it. Kinda like he's protecting me. I appreciate Rocky looking out for me, but he's gotta learn to share me, lol.

| Loki does this sometimes. He will bark at my husband when he walks in the room or sits down on the couch. It's stupid because he's home with him all day but Loki is just trying to "protect" his resource - me! We don't allow it and he gets an immediate time out in his crate or he is asked to get off the couch or bed or whatever or we make him leave the room. If you are consistent he will get better. Basically when he does that he wants attention so you give him the exact opposite. He'll figure out he can't act like that if he wants to stay in the room.

| Kiki is a mama's boy also. I wondered why, every time I sit down with my son and help him with his homework he looks up at us and start making all kinds of noises. It's so bad that I have to put him in another room or in his crate. I wondered if you was just trying to get my attention. I also notice when I go to give my husband or my son kisses he wants to jump up and give kisses also.

They are so intellegant so he knows to ignore the vacuum when you're not there, certainly sounds like he is protecting you. I hope he can share you too | |

| My Rocky is a momma's boy also. If my dh and I try to cuddle he has to get right up in the middle of us. Plus if I am home he will not give my dh to the time of day, but if Rocky is home alone with my dh it is a different story. I never had the problem with bitting thing, but I would correct him when he does that. |

Rae, remind me again how old Rocky is. I can't remember. When Rocky tried to bite your BF and sisters, was he growling?

| Thanks for the advice everyone! Were definitly going to try the ignore-thing when he gets mad that I give attention to someone else. FirstYorkie- He's 10mo. old today. This started a couple weeks ago. He hasn't really growled, but just snapped. Our moms and sisters it was when they were holding him. My boyfriend it was when we were just sitting there watching TV. It's really random. He doesn't give any warning.

I think your BF needs to become the keeper of the resources. Have your BF feed him, give him his treats, give him the new toys, etc. Basically, anything your pup finds desirable, let your BF have control over including access to your bed (if he sleeps with you). I expect that he'll be able get on Rocky's good side that way.

| My Patrick asked me to retire to stay home with Toto. We are together 24/7! And she is absolutely "my baby" until he gets home in the afternoon and then she is pretty much his! She starts her "lookout" about 30 min to an hour before he gets home. When I first realized how fickle she was .... well, frankly, it hurt my feelings. After we observed her for a while we now see that when she is hungry, cold, scared, sleepy, etc., she wants noone but me!! Am I being used?? JK During the day, she is very independent .... not clingy .... just wants to be in the same room with me but not on me. She loves, loves all humans and will usually let others hold her. So, I would say she is pretty "well rounded".

| Try This Well, my Toby for some reason does not like certain people and I figured out why! They try too hard to get the dog to love them. After all they are the cutest little creatures. So I try to tell anyone that comes into my home that this is his turf and my husband and I belong to him so they need to ignore him and let him come to them. Those that have followed the suggestion have found that our Toby will make up with them much quicker. Example: My sister-in-law was living with us and she had many, many visitors and hospice nurses.......they all got the same instructions.........well, he made up with and actually greeted them with wagging tail and kisses when they would return. By three visits, they were family. So try instructing them to ignore him and see if that works with at least some of the problem. Don't know what to say about the BF.
