| New Litter Box So after trying everything I finally bought a litter box with the puppy litter. Stump pees on his pee pad, but poops on the carpet still! We tried putting a pee pad in the litter box and he thought it was to play with! I put a pee pad where he always poops and no he goes about a foot away from the pee pad. We put the litter box down nd he tried eating it! How do I introduce him to the litter box and get him to know it is for pooping??? How bad is it if he eats some litter? Keep in mind he is a year old.. not a puppy!! |

| I just bought Cash a litter box also, initially, i left the litter in the litter box with a pee pad on top of it and Cash just digs out the litter nd chews on it so, i sprayed some grannick apple bitter on the litter and the pad and he stopped eating it less but he started using his litter box as a play area and would bring his toys in there and play with it. finally i got fed up with him playing in it so i just dumped out the litter and placed his semi-dirty pee pad in it and put it back in his x-pen and voila! he pee in it now except i had gotten him a small litter box and after he pees in it like 3 times, the pad gets dirty and he'll go on the floor. i got him a bigger one today, one that holds almost a whole pee pad without having to fold it and so far so good. when you see him squatting in the poop position to pick him up and place him in the litter box and say something like poop here. it works with cash. sometimes he still misses but all we have to say "uh uh uh, no no" and he repositions himself. oh and i asked my vet about eating litter and she said that most litters are clay based so when ingested it coats the stomach so it's not good but i bought the purina dog litter and it says paper based so i figures it was okay since he likes to chew up tissues and paper towels when i'm not looking. hope this helps!

| We tried the pee pad in the box thing. I think he is one of the dogs that won't pee and poop in the same place. So his pee pad is next to his litter box. He will pee on the pee pad, so I'm not worried about his peeing. It is mainly his pooping. And as for the pee pad in the litter box.. we tried that and he was like umm okay why did you put that there I'm not going in there. And then I read some dogs like to see their poop where they go so they know that they can go there. So when he had an accident I would pick up the poop and put it in the littter box on the pee pad. Then he would use his nose and fold over the pee pad. He is sooooo stubborn! But then again I know this is part my fault too because I haven't been as consistent as I should have been when I first got him... it's just so hard to get mad at someone with those little eyes!!! |
