| Angel is Scratching/Eating Her Pee Pads! I got Angel in June, and for some reason starting last week, she's been scratching her pee pads w/ her front paws and then chewing/eating the spots she's scratched. The pee pads are placed in a tray w/ a frame. The first time I noticed her do it was to a pee spot as the pad would be easier to scratch. Now she does it even to a clean pad. I see the white stuff in her hair around her mouth and on the tarp and she's chewing like she's eating it. How can I get her to stop doing this? It's expensive to keep changing the pads when they're still good to use, and I don't want her to eat the pads as I'm afraid the absorbent stuff may be harmful to her and get stuck in her body. |

| I even saw the white stuff in her nostrils when I was cleaning her face w/ a washcloth. I didn't know how to get it out, but luckily, she must've blew air through her nose or sneezed as they were gone after a while. |

| Does anyone have any suggestions? I've thought about socks, but she'll probably pull them off. Shoes might work though. Do you know of any comfortable/good shoes? Thanks! |

My 2 only do it when they are alone or bored. It makes a mess doesn't it. Don't wait until she can schread the whole thing . When I am at home, I leave a disposable in the family room for the girls. When I must leave, they have use of the washable ones in their playpens. They are well worth the investment. IF you decide not to use the washable ones, buy people blue pads from the adult diaper section. They are thicker, held tighter in the frame and you just tuck the excess under the frame. Whether you use disposables or washable, people ones are less then half the price of pet product ones.

| Adrianna did the same thing with her pad. But she finally outgrew it. I wish I had better advice for you, but I think it's just something your baby will outgrow. Remember....they are puppies!!

I just read the packaging for the Hartz Living Puppy Training Pads for Dogs & Puppies, which is what I use for Angel, and it says the pads are made with an absorbent polymer and cotton fluff. The packaging says, “The pad material is not harmful if swallowed by pets.” Hopefully, the latter is true, but it makes me feel better it says this. Where I live in Canada, Wal-Mart sells them for about $10 (32 in a package), which is the cheapest I've seen pet pads sold for here. Last edited by DJ30; 08-28-2006 at 08:37 AM. | |
