| Outside to pee pads Does anyone know how to train a dog that has been trained to go outside, to start using the pads? Rocky isn't fully potty trained, he occasionalyl pees in the house, but always poos in the house. I've been training him to go outside, but come winter time I doubt he'll go out, especially when it snows. He hates rain, so when it rains he doesnt like to go out either. I've come to the conclusion that the pads would probably be best for him. Anyone have any advice? |

| Start by taking him to the pad first thing in the morning. Put him on it and tell him to "go potty" and don't let him leave it until he goes. When he does go, reward and praise him. Until he gets more trained to go on the pad, you will have to put him on the pad and wait there to make sure he goes on the pad and does not wander off. After he goes on the pad a few times, you can start by looking for signs that he has to go and then lead him over to the pad so that he will learn by himself that if he has to go potty he has to go on the pad. It takes some time but once they learn it they do pretty good. Good luck with training!!!

| Thanks! So basically just treat him as untrained? Do you think it will take him longer to go on the pad though since he has been going pee outside? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | It might take longer since he was trained to go outside. I sometimes see Maya, my Pom standing on the pee pads but she has never used them as she is trained for the outside and Cali won't go outside. You may want to take the pads outside for awhile and put him on them outside and then gradually bring them closer to the door and finally inside.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Yes it may help him get use to the pads. I love Cali being pad trained!! Much easier and no accidents just a little costly.

| I personally don't use pee pads, but here's a tip you might try. Take a clean pad and pick up a piece of feces with it (then discard the feces). A bit of the smell will linger on the pad. You might also dab a tiny bit of urine on it. That way, he'll have a clearer idea of what the pad is for.

| Thanks everyone for your advice, I appreciate it! So this morning I made him sit on the pad for a long time, and he never went. He finally went at like 9:30 when I went outside to smoke. It's gonna take time, but I don't want him holding it for hours because it might cause problems, atleast in humans it can so I'm not sure about dogs. |
