| confused My new 1 year old doesn't poop all day long. I feed her early in the morning and about 5-ish in the PM. She doesn't poop at all during the day.She will poop in her crate at night tramplesall in it and makes a mess. I'm going crazy with this. I took her to the park this evening thinking the exercise would stimulate her bowels, nope! I'm seriously dreaming of life before her, I know that sounds mean but I'm exshausted already and it has been 9 days.Is there anything I can't do different to get her on a different pooping schedule. |

| Hmm... Yeah, I can see how that would be really annoying. I've found that feeding Joey a small piece of carrot slightly loosens his bowels. Perhaps if you fed that to your girl first thing in the morning, she'd need to go before bedtime? PS I LOVE your signature line!

| Try yogurt? It's supposed to be good for digestion. I would suggest exercise but you already tried that. This is a tough one.

| Pooping at night only? I can understand your frustration; I would suggest is giving her a larger meal in the morning than the rest of the day. Carrots and green beans can add enough bulk to stimulate the bowels, without causing extra weight. You could also try 'matching' her after her breakfast, and in the afternoon/early evening. Can you hear her in the night? If she gets restless, take her out then-getting up in the night is preferable to a dirty crate. I have to admit, that even though I have crate-trained all my dogs, with small or young ones I have them sleep with me, or next to my bed, as I wake up as soon as they start getting restless. Or, I have kept them on a lead looped around my hand; it works the same. If you give a large meal early in the day, take her out regularly, 'match' her if necessary for at least one bowel movement before evening, you should have some success. Otherwise, I would cut the afternoon/evening meal out completely for a few days-she won't starve-to see if she empties herself before bedtime. Some dogs just have slow digestions, like some people. One question-what feed does she eat? It could have an effect upon her as well. Good Luck |

| The rice is probably making her constipated. That's what I give Loki when he has diarrhea. Try feeding a consistent diet of the kibble. That will make her more regular for a while. If you need to add weight, feed the innova puppy food.

| Matching Puppies Matching actually is a method of stimulating a dog to have a bowel movement. It is commonly used to prevent a show dog from having an accident in the ring, but is also good for some potty training. It consists of using a paper match-the type from matchbooks, much tidier than enemas! With the puppy in its pottying area on lead, take a paper match from the book, wet the sulphur end in your mouth-won't poison you-then gently insert it in the puppie's rectum, about half an inch on an upward slope. Having it there will encourage the puppy to squat to poop, hopefully with success. If it doesn't work, put her back in her crate/pen or whatever you use, and try her again in an hour or so. Unless she has a blockage-and she would be in pain if she did, this will work sooner or later. When it does, praise her to the heavens, give her a small treat and make sure she pees before going in. It doesn't usually have to be done much, but iit can help regulate the puppie's schedule, so that her bowels are empty before bedtime. Let me know how it goes. (No pun intended!) |
