| What am I doing wrong Well I've gotten my little nemo (4 months) just this monday past. I honestly don't have a clue how to begin the potty training procedure. I've read most of the post concerning this issue but just don't know how to start. From day one I had wee wee pad set-up and when he's getting ready I either snap (doesn't really work just keeps doing his buisness) or pick him up and take him to the pad and say "potty". Other times when I see him getting ready and just say his name and point to the pad ( and I say potty) he goes to the pad and sniffs at it and promtly sits down and looks at me. Other times when he potty's and I don't catch him and don't yell or anything but simply clean up after him and wipe it away with white vinegar. Last 2 days now he thinks the wee wee pads are for naps and tearing up (LoL). Any idea what to do. Should I just start the crate training and be done with it...or do the xpen? John |

| With as many hours as you are gone a day, you can't use a crate. You will need to set up an x-pen with plastic under it, put in his crate with a bed in it, and then put his pad(s) in the x-pen with his food and water and toys. That seems to be your only option unless someone else is going to be helping you with this.

| I'm a stay at home mom so I'm able to be with Joey a lot. But when he was little I would take him outside to his spot, every hour and say Joey go potty. Now he is a year old and can pretty much go on comand. Never thought I would get that far. Just keep at it. Remember don't yell at your baby after the fact. They have no idea what is wrong. And I never put Joeys nose in the mess. Mainly because I kiss that mouth!! Good Luck! |

| I've been there too LOL Hi, the first few days I had JJ, I let him roam the place as he wished (mistake...) and would only crate him at night.I set up pee pads and was waiting for him to get attracted to the smell.Supposedly they should be.But he'd go everywhere else than the pad and I couldn't watch him all the time, even so, catching him pee is hard, he'd just stop for a second while walking around and there you go. I'd put him on pee pad after he woke up, once I held him there for almost 30 minutes. Nothing but whining. Then he settled down and went to sleep. LOL. I got great advice here to set up an expen, small size, with enough space only for peepads, his food, toys, and bed. Then he's going to have no choice but go on the pad. AND IT WORKED! Right now, 2 days later, I extended his xpen and only put 1 pad there. He has even some space to occupy himself with toys when I'm busy and can't tend to him. But after I see he goes, it's easy to take him out for a while to play and let him explore.Still, at night he won't stay in xpen, wakes up every hour and whines like crazy.I put him back into his crate next to my bed and he slept half night, thank God...LOL. Good luck.

| I got LillyBelle at 5mos, she wasn't house trained. I took her out about every hour and said lets go potty, we got up twice during the night. She had quite a few accidents at first. I then hung a furry pink bell on the door and in just a couple of afternoons for about a 15-20min time period I would ring the bell, and say go "ding-ding", then take her to the bell, help her ring it and say "ding-ding" then give her a teeny tiny piece of cheese or turkey, then I would say "go ding ding" and she would do it on command, get a tiny treat and we would go out...now at 11mos, she rings her bell whenever she wants out. She still does on occasion have an accident in the house-so we are not 100%, but about 99%. |

| pottytraining Hi. I can understand the frustration of this pottytraining process because I am going through it right now myself. But, don't worry, there's hope! I remembered just praying to God that she would "go potty on the potty pad". But here's what I did (do). First of all, go to the pet store and buy an "attractant" (scents for dog's pee and poo ) and a deodorizer spray (for cleanup). Spray the attractant on the pad and make sure your puppy smells it for a little bit. If he/she chooses to go, then praise her like crazy!!!! And give her a treat!!! Sometimes the puppy will be ok with pee pee-ing with the smell and not poo poo-ing... so I like to leave a tiny piece of doodoo on the pad. Try to watch the puppy for signs of wanting to "go" like sniffing, circling and especially squatting... if you see these signs take them to the pad and say "go potty". If there are mistakes, spray the nature's miracle cleaner/deodorizing spray and wipe clean... the smell will linger unless you use the product. Maybe pretty soon your dog will come to you looking for his/her treat after she know she's potty-ed in the right place!! Let's Hope anyway!! |

| I guess I can post since my furbaby is about 90% potty trained. Bacci is 5 months. My fiance and I work full time jobs and are not home all the time. When we first got home with Bacci I can't begin to tell you how discouraged I was. We set up a xpen. DO NOT let him roam the house. Introducing him to one room at a time might be better so your lil one doesnt get so confused. We wee wee pad trained him. BC we are gone for long periods of time and live an apt. I guess the most success is the praise after words. I would look for signs. Or no, that 10-15 minutes after playing, eating, drinking he would need to go potty. So i would constantly pick him up and put him on the pad. Say potty bacci. If you arent there you cant dicipline them bc they will have no clue what your talking about. In the midst of the action I would pick him up and put him on the pad and if he finished there I would praise him "potty bacci good boy" I diddnt use an attractant, mainly bc my cat was having issues with the pee pads being on the floor bc apparantly it doesnt only work on dogs. But yorkies LOVE praise and attention. Once your lil one figures out that every time he does the action you want him to, you will give him a treat or pet him for a couple minutes he will begin doing it. It is a LOT of repetition, and time. 5 months and he still has some accidents here and there. Dont get discouraged, they are one of the hardest breeds to potty train. good luck

| my male wasnt that hard at all, but this lil girl sure has made me work hard trying to potty train her. I use treats. Thats the only way I have been able to get her to go out there. She now runs and pees or poos and then runs to me for her treat. It is soooo darn cute seeing her run to me as if she has never had a treat before. It's just a small lil nibble but enough to know she did a good job. And I give her tons of praise. She is 4 months old now and is doing very well. For 2 weeks now she has NOT gone potty in her crate (overnight). So I'm very impressed on the progress she has made. But it does take work I'm not gonna lie to ya. You have to keep an eye on them or put them in an area to where if they do have an accident your not gonna get all that upset. Just be patient and it will all work out in the end. Good luck to ya.
