| I'm starting to get frustartaed !!!!! HELP Okay some of you may recognize my post from last week dealing with Gia & her potty training. It had gotten so bad that we called in a trainer to help assist with getting her potty trained, Gia is going on 11 wks. old she's healthy but stubborn as a door knob. Anyway the trainer put us on a schedule so that it would be easier to monitor her potty times. She eats at 8AM, 1PM, and last at 6PM.Anyway to make a long long long story short I can basically pinpoint when she needs to go in the morning but after she gets that first meal all hell breaks lose. I want to we wee pad train her so in the winter we don't have to go outside. I have the wee wee pads set up in the bottom of an empty closet I keep the door open constantly & I have the baby gate up so she can't get out. Gia will start going potty in a place where she is not supposed to I will pick her up & bring her to the area where she is supposed to go (this is something the trainer told me to do) and Gia will hold it & won't go. I've kept her in there up to an hour & she won't go she'll wait until I take her out to go to potty where she is not supposed to go (The beds, the carpet, the bathroom floor, the rugs).I hear myself yelling at her & I feel bad (and the trainer told me not to yell at her). What do I need to do???? |

Its going to take time. Be patient, go have a nice martini, lol. Keep working w/ her..keep bringing her to the pad, dont let her off the pad until she goes, no matter how long it is. When she finally does go, reward her. Its definitly going to take time though, some pups still have accidents up to a year. | |

| @11 weeks old she is still to little to be totaly pottie trained, all i can say patience and lots of it, i doubt she understands when you yell at her, other then learning to be afraid of you ! I could never get Rosi to potty on pad, she wanted outside, Poli is allmost 13 weeks, and he goes MOSTLY on pad , but not allways, plus i take him ouside alot. Mabey you should try to crate train in an xpen. Mine got the run of the house, and i realy have to watch him !

| She maybe afraid of the closet. I would put the pee pad where she prefers to go just as a start to get her to use it. Everywhere she has gone has to be washed. I don't mean just wiped up with cleaner but deep cleaned. Do you have a hand held carpet cleaner? The mats can be put in the washer then picked up for now. Mya used to pee on the mats in the bathroom because we go in that room so I guess she figured, Yep this is the potty room. *grin* Next spray a nice cheep perfume on spots where she goes. This has never failed me to stop a dog going in that same spot. Also Mya would not use a pee pad twice. She would not poop if the second pad was close to the pad where she peed. I wanted he to stay pee pad trained too but now she will only go out side. If you play with your puppy they will need to go out after as well. Use lots of praise and treat maybe if puppy goes outside or on the pee pad.

| I don't know if this will help you, but this is what I did and it worked for my 3 females, (my boy wears a belly band because I breed and he marks) ranging in age from 6 months to 2 1/2 years old: In my carpeted computer room I have an x-pen arranged for the least amount of space (square). It sits on a piece of linoleum. You can buy remants at Lowes, Menards, probably just about any place like that. I paid $15.00 for mine, then cut it to fit just a little larger than the x-pen. I put the smallest crate in the x-pen along with water and food bowl. There is just enough room for 2 pee pads and a very little space for toys (when replacing soiled pads, put fresh ones in the 2 exact same spots). If the crate is small enough, she won't "go" in there, and mine have never gone near the food and water bowls. They have always gone on one of the pee pads. After a few days, remove one pee pad (the one she didn't use as often) and continue to keep pee pad in exact same spot. When I took them out to play in my family room, I put a pee pad down and placed them on it so they knew it was there. I never ever left the room and gave my total attention for a full 30-60 minutes. If they started to "go" I would say "NO" firmly, but not yelling and then place them on the pee pad. If they didn't "go" I would continue to monitor until I was ready to put them back in the x-pen. Mine all got the hang of it. Once in a great, great while there may be an accident, but hardly ever. Mine are not trained in any way to go outside only on pee pads. If you want to try this and have questions, please PM me. I can't guarantee it will work for you, but it has and continues to work for me. Remember always to be consistant and EVERY time you see her go on the pad, phrase her with all you've got (don't startle her). Before mine were trained, I also carried frosted cheerios around with me in a baggie in my pocket, so not only did they get phrase, they got a treat!! I hope this can work for you, but please be patient, she's still just a baby....

| xpen is a great idea. that's how Mia learned to use her wee wee pads. now that she is 16 weeks we are trying to teach her to go outside, and we take her out every 45 mins-1 hr. Lucky for us, as soon as so walks out she goes pee pee, so we just get back in. Your pup probably has no clue why you want her to go on the wee wee pads. If you keep her confined in an x-pen, she will get the picture. When we were training Mia to go on the wee wee pads, we went out to Lowe's, got a large square of linoleum to put on the carpet in the living room. Didn't cost much, and you can move the linoleum around. Then, we put the xpen on the linoleum. You don't have to do that, but that way even when she had accidents, it was easier to clean than carpet. After that, we put her wee wee pad in one corner of the xpen, covered the rest of the area with her toys, a bed and food & water bowls, so she wouldn't have the option to go elsewhere but on the wee wee pad. Before that I remember Mia used to look me straight in the eye as she went on the carpet. It was soooo frustrating. I am sure things will get better in time. Just do your best to be patient. Good luck.

| I wonder if maybe she's afraid of the closet. Maybe try putting the pee pads somewhere else. If she doesn't go where you want her to, try keeping her in her crate and take her out every 15 minutes and put her on the pads and see if that works. She's still really really young, so don't get discouraged so early. She'll catch on, just give her time. Try not to yell at her, she might get confused and scared. Good luck! |

| Google didn't "get" wee-wee pad training until I bought the scented ones that are supposed to attract puppies to use them. Have you tried them? |

| I went though the same thing with Jewel. Stubborn didn't even describe her! We also called in a trainer and were told to put her in a x-pen and to keep her in there until she went. I maxed out after 2 hours of her insistant crying, and yelping and felt like the most awful mom! She had me in tears begging her to pee so I can let her out. After the 2 hours, I finally relented and let her out and the little stinker immediately peed on the carpet! It ended up, she was not a piddle pad girl and she took to going outside so quickly. I just assumed cuz Jazzie uses the piddle pad Jewel will follow the example. NOT! Your little tyke might just prefer going outside. All Jewel wanted to do was to sleep ON the piddle pad, soiled or not! As she got older, she only slept on a clean pad, thank goodness!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | 11 WEEKS is just a baby. I think you're expecting too much - their bladders are so so tiny and to think a puppy that young would just know where to go is only going to frustrate you. I'm no expert but I think instead of a closet - put the pads where you want her to learn and just keep being patient. MY oldest Chanel trained on both pads and outside in a few weeks....Cheri took many MONTHS. Each yorkie is different - you may have to try different methods to see what works - |

| First off, you need to remember that your girl is VERY young. Many Yorkie pups have not even left the mother and litter at 11 weeks, much less adapted to a new home and taken to house training. Please try to understand that this is not an overnight process and it is one that I'm afraid will be trial and error as far as which method is best. All dogs-Yorkies or otherwise-are different and what may work for one may not work for another. Give her time to be a puppy, be patient and stick with it. |
