| Nighttime Hunting and Potty Casey, who is 11 weeks old, has learned that junebugs taste really good. My wife and I haven't let him eat too many (so he won't get sick, and he's too fast to stop everytime), but it seems he's become the great nighttime hunter. In fact, when it becomes dark, he is totally obsessed with it to the point he won't potty. When back in the house, he will almost immediately tell us he needs to go outside by whinning at the door, but when outside he won't potty -- just hunt. Any other time during the day and he potties as he should. Is there something we can do so that he will potty and not hunt at night? TIA, Steven |

| Have you tried putting him on a leash and keeping him right at your side? Another good suggestion I read about was having a small xpen set up outside just to go potty in. Gus didn't hunt but was distracted by every little thing so it would take a long time for him to go. Now that he knows the command for potty he is good at going when I tell him then he is allowed to play (at night just a minute or two). Mostly, it is patience, being consistent and just a matter of time. Good luck.

| Nighttime Hunting and Potty We do keep him on a short leash, and take him to the "spot". We even leave a fresh terd laying around so he'll sniff and maybe want to go. He is just so distracted anymore at dark by the flying bugs (even in extreme darkness) that he will pull constantly on the leash to reach them darn bugs. Maybe this will pass over time... Has anyone ever tried spraying the bitter apple scent on a junebug??? LOL Steven |

| Reagan tries to catch catch/play/eat them but they always get stuck in her beard. Then she continues shaking her head trying to get them out but it never works. Reagan does that too, gets distracted by things and won't go potty. As a matter of fact last week it was a leaf. Now given we don't have many trees in the area where she goes potty so she doesn't see many leaves but she stood out there barking for 5-10 minutes until I came out and showed her it was a dead limb that had like three leaves on it. I honestly don't know what to tell you because if there is something that gets Reagan's attention she won't potty either so if you figure something out let me know too. It really irritates you when they don't go then you bring them back in and then they go on the floor, oh well.... Good luck..

| Go Casey! You are a mighty hunter - you need to post a warning sign to all Junebugs - in Georgia it would also be Julybugs and Augustbugs My Chattie was a mighty frog hunter when she was a pup. I cannot begin to tell you how many dehydrated frog corpses made their way onto the livingroom couch! At 11 weeks, Casey is still just a pup and is rather self-absorbed. In time he will learn to put aside his agenda and follow yours |
