| New Owner - Need some advice Hello, I am going to be a proud owner of Yorkie in a few days. I was wondering if anyone could give me some help with training, and what I should purchase before the pup arives. Any information would be helpful, I live in a small apartment and I was thinking of liter box training, and input? Thank you |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome and congratulations. You will need a crate or playpen ,wee wee pads, bowls, harness and leash toys bed or blankets. Nutrical for low blood sugar episodes. Read a smuch as you can on here and post with any questions. Cali is the first puppy that I crate trained and wee wee pad trained. She did great. I bought a dog playpen and but her bedding at one end and her wee wee pad at the other. She trained in weeks this way. She loves her playpen and will go in (one end zips open) and take a nap or if people are over she will go rest in there. Living in an apartment I think wee wee pad training will be easier to do. Good luck and post pics when you can.

| I'll vouch for the pee pads and ex-pen as well! Works great for Oscar. He picked it up SO FAST! We have the pen set up with a pee pad at one end and his bed at the other. During the day, I leave the door open to the pen and he trots off in there when he needs to potty. One piece of advise - don't spend a fortune buying all those 'cute' toys that are out there. I bought quite a few and i've found one of his favorite things is one of my old (clean ) socks with a knot tied in it. Be consistent in training - and patient - don't give up! They are smart dogs and can learn quickly! Be consistent in the commands you use, reward them with praise as well as treats. Keep training sessions down to 10 or 15 minutes several times a day so that you and the dog don't end up frustrated... Good luck! Can't wait to see some pictures!

| thank you both so much for the help. I would eventually like to start trianing my yorkie to not go in the house but rather outside (my old dog would bark at me when he needed to go for a walk) is it possible to make the transition from pet pads to outdoors? Thanks again! |

| If you are wanting him to eventually go outdoors I would just start training him to go outside only. It is too confusing to train both and I had no luck with pee pads or litterboxes I would just take him outside every half hour untill he gets it. Reward with treats when he goes

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali is wee wee pad trained and will never go outside to pee. Even though my Pom is outdoor trained and we go for walks, Cali will hold it until we get home. So I have not had any luck with her going in and out.

| Oscar goes in and out... just depends. When he's inside, he goes on his pad, when he's outside he'll go out there.
