| Peeing on the carpet still I know many of you will relate to this. Zoie is 4 months old and still pees on the carpet half the time. We were paper training her and it wasn't working out all the time and it got warm outside so I took it outside and she would still come in and pee on the carpet. So I took away the paper entirely and she's started to pee outside, but only when she's held it for a long time in her crate like all night or during a nap. Other than that, she'll go outside, not pee and then come in and 10 minutes later pee on the carpet. I try leaving her in her crate for in-between pees, but eventually I feel guilty and let her out in the house (after letting her out yet again). She'll still pee on the carpet. I even stand out in the rain with her and she just stands there. Just had to vent. I'm ready for her to start "getting it". We are getting a fence for the back yard tomorrow and I can't wait to turn her out by herself. I'm just afraid she'll spend more time outside and still not understand that I want her to pee outside, not in!! |

I Love Thor Donating Member | Do you use a command to "Go Pee" or something like that? That is a great command for them to know and I still use it with my 1yr old yorkie, say if we are in a hurry, or going into someone else's house, etc. The potty training thing can be draining but you just have to stick with it. She will get it. I would just keep standing out there saying "go pee" "go pee" until she finally peed and then give her a treat and praise the mess out of her. A fenced in yard will help, but she might just whine to come straight back inside with you if you go inside. Anyways, just stick with it and be patient and she will get it. Good luck |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Carpet It could be that no matter what the scent is still in the carpet. What did you clean the carpet with...remember to give it a good soak in that spot because the pee gets all the way down to the padding underneath. I know it's frustrating a all heck. Lately Lex has been back sliding..I don't mind if he pees on the piddle pad but he finds somewhere else to go on the floor. Frustrated is my middle name. I have to keep at it though.

| Yes, my command is "'Go Pee" and Go Potty after I get tired of saying Go Pee for five minutes! LOL I do praise her and give her a treat or a part of a treat everytime she goes straight out and pees. You are right, I just have to be patient. |

| I use a Little Green Clean Machine cleaner/shampooer (it has a a mix of cleaner and water in a sprayer that I use as I vacuum it up). I sometimes use the woolite pet spray also. Maybe I'll focus more on getting the scent up. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Scent The regular cleaning solutions don't seem to remove the smell correctly. Try mixing 50/50 water and vinegar to use to clean it and then afterwards you can use the regular cleaning stuff to make it smell pleasant. I either use the vinegar/water or the puppy stain remover from Kmart. I think that the vinegar/water works better but the smell annoys me. SO I will use it and as soon as it dries mop the spot with nice smelling stuff so my house doesn't smell like a pickel factory. Patience is definitely a virtue that I have to work on here...lol.

| Sounds like you are letting her run around all the time. A lot of people simply can't fathom that crate training means that the dog is in the crate most of the time. Not only when he/she is sleep or you are at work but when you are home too. At 8 months old I finally let my pup run around while we were at home. The 6 months of crate training meant we never had an accident and never had to worry about her not going to her litter box. I would suggest you leave him in the crate most of the time and when you take him out take him directly to where you want him to go. Let him hang out for about 10 minutes and put him back.

| I am a stay-at-home mom so it's not fathomable that she would stay in the crate all day while the kids and I are home. I let her run around outside quite a bit. On nice days she's out for hours at a time. On days like today when it's cool outside I'll take her out and leave her out for 15 minutes at a time and then if she's peed I let her run around for awhile before crating her or taking her out again. I take her out VERY often. Today she's only peed on the carpet once. She's pooped outside just while ago and now she's laying by my feet. I keep gates up so she can't go pee in the dining room or the formal living room, I keep the powder room and laundry room door shut. She was peeing in the dining room(kids play room LOL) and that's why I gated it off, and it's helped alot. I will try to pay more attention and make sure she's not running around inside too much, but she's a puppy and I want her to bond with us and if she's crated all the time, I'm not sure how that works. |

| So, I found a crate training article that encourages using the bell on the door as well and I'm going to try to do it with that added. I will be more vigilant and leave her in her crate more. The only problem is that she's starting to cry more when I leave her in it which leaves her outside more on a leash because I don't want her bothering me and the kids with her crying. They will just let her out if she cries. I am going to start getting up earlier or in the middle of the night to let her out too so she can learn to let me know when she needs out at night instead of going in her crate sometimes. Any other advice? |

| Don't give in to her, if you do it will only make things harder for you. Stick with crating her, take her out of her crate to go potty, if she doesn't put her back in the crate and try again in 10 to 15 minutes. If she goes, then you can let her roam for awhile. You don't want to give her free run of the house or she may never be trained. As far as bonding, I have noticed that when you crate them they tend to enjoy your company more when they are out of the crate. They will bond with you, crate or no crate. You mentioned that you are getting fencing. Until she is completely housetrained take outside yourself our watch her the entire time that way you know whether or not she went. It takes alot of time and patience, consistency is very important also.

| Simple Solution Oxy spray. Believe me, we have a lot of experience with peeing on carpets here, lol, especially since Parker started marking. That's the best cleaner I have found so far. Most pet stores have it, PetSmart does. I also liked the Woolite for Pets I got at Walmart, but after trying the Simple Solution there's no comparison. I feel you're pain, it's soooo frustrating. It took a lot longer to train Parker than I ever expected, he was probably 8 or 9 months!!! And just when he had finally got it...he started marking. And that's a whole new ball-game. Give her time, she'll get it eventually, good luck |

| Is she your only dog? My pup learned to pee outside very quickly - the minute he smelled all the places the other dogs had pee'd. He never pee's in the house if I get off my rearend and take him out every two hours or so. And, when we go out he pee's his little heart out and has about 10 bushes that he needs to pee on. But - of course, by the time he gets to the last one, he has only about one drop (or none) left. I think it has helped alot - my having another dog to provide all the outside "smells" for him. Good luck - Carol Jean PS: If I didn't my pup outside every couple hours, he'd pee in the house and think nothing of it. So - the one who is trained - is me..... Carol Jean |

| At 4 months your dog will not be housetrained, even if you are ready for it. You've got a good 2-6 more months of careful training.

| Actually each dog is different and that's not a fair statement. :-) I've had a half Yorkie dog that was fully potty trained by 4 months. She never had any issues after potty training. I was faithful with potty training with her from the minute we brought her home and she did better than her older poodle brother. He still had accidents at 3 years old. My Zoie is having good days and bad days. She seems to do MUCH better if I don't take her out every 15-30 minutes but leave her in her kennel for a couple hours (after having gone potty) and then take her out again. I think it was confusing for her to go out so often. Now when she goes out, she usually needs to pee and has held it long enough to need to go. I just can't let her run around inside much at all or she likes to pee on the carpet 15 mins after she's peed outside. So, if she needs exercise, we roam the backyard with the kids. Potty training is such a process for some dogs!!!!!! My husband thinks she's stupid because she still pees inside if she can. I think she just prefers the carpet and knows better LOL. |

| I do have some other dogs in the neighborhood that she smells on the grass but she won't pee on their pee. Interesting huh? She prefers her own scent as far as I can tell outside. I'm thinking about getting her some panties too for inside sometimes. |
