| Grooming question My pup is now 15 weeks old. My breeder told me that I will need to take her to the groomer to get her ears standing...after reading some post I am confused? She has her standing 3 week appt with the groomer tomorrow and I'm not sure what to tell her. I love bella's puppy ears, and when I stand her ears up (just to see what they'd look like) they look Extra big, and I'm afraid if I get them standing they'll look funny I really want her (when she's full size) to have the ears that look like 2 little pig tails...I love that look, but how do I get that? Is it up to my groomer and if so, how do I describe it? I'm sorry, I know this post is silly and confusing, but she's my first yorkie, so I need some grooming HELP!!! Thanks!

| If you want them down, leave the hair on them. If the hair is left on them and they begin to stand you can glue her ears down (we use hair glue-like for extensions) and is safe/non-toxic. We use it on other breeds meant for the show ring. Otherwise, if you want them to stand, then you'd ask your groomer to take the weight of the hair off my shaving the tips of the ears (length shaven varies on personal preference) on the outside of the leather of the ear and sometimes if you've really got a fuz ball, then the inside of the leather too. The idea is that the more weight taken off the ears, the more inclined they are to stand as the breed standard calls for. Up to you though, she's your pet. |

| I think most puppies have "floppy ears" (that go up and down for a while) -- and they are certainly cute. My pup sounds exactly like yours - I almost wanted him to keep his floppy ears forever - they were so cute. And, like your pup, mine also has "big ears." As I said, my pups ears went up and down for a while, but at about four months, they went up and stayed up. Prior to this, I decided that I did want his ears "up" because, for me, this is what makes a Yorkie look like a Yorkie. To each his own, but adult Yorkies with floppy ears - don't really look like little Yorkies to me. (But, they still do look like the cutest little dogs in the world.) Now that my pups ears are up to stay - they are big - and he looks like a little coyote to me. You'll get a lot of help from others on how to help your little Yorkies ears stay up. (Or - they may well eventually do it on their own - without any extra help.) Or...........you may prefer them down - if they chose to be that way. Good luck - Carol Jean |

| my vote is for perky ears! I want my Bella's ear in point , I have several comflicting ideas on what to do. How many have you taped/glued your yorkies ears, how man yof you didn't and the ears perked up anyway? When is a crucial time? Bella is almost 9weeks. Thanks. |

| Hi, I don't have much information except that my yorkie, who is almost 12 weeks, has floppy ears, too that are big! I am debating as well what to do about them. I don't want to tape them because I think he would just get the tape off in a manner of seconds. I've been thinking about going in and getting the hair shaved to see if that helps them stand. If it doesn't, then I'll leave them alone. what I'm wondering though, is if I do get the hair shaved and they stand and it looks too funny because they are so big, will the hair grow back? |

| I taped Nap's ears today after getting his ears shaved. He is 15week old. He's been trying to get the tape off but it looks like the tape is pretty strong (using strapping tape). I will update on status of his ears in a few days! I hope the ears perk up because he looks cuter and like a Yorkie with ears up lol

| Zoey's ears I too was worried and confused about what to do. I left them alone until about 4 months and then the groomer shaved the tops. They just seemed to stand up one day. I do like to keep the hair short, it makes her ears look smaller. Until about 4 months, I wouldn't worry about them! Zoey's mom |

| As you can see from Nap's avatar, his ears have perked up After only two days of having his ears taped, he somehow got one side's tape loose, so I took it all off. One ear has stood up and has not flopped down yet. The other is struggling to stay up, but I think eventually will stay up for good lol.

| I shaved Yogi's ears last night just to see if that would do it. They came up some but not all the way. They definitely looked lighter ! I taped his ears today. So we'll see what happens. He's doing pretty good with the tape so far. He tried to get the tape off at first and we kept trying to get him to not do it. But then we just let him mess with it and after he got it out of his system, he seems fine with it. He goes to the vet on Wednesday for his three month shots and check up. Don't know what they'll think of me if I walk in there with his ears wrapped in masking tape ! My 2 year old daughter came in after I had taped Yogi's ears and she says "mommy, MICKEY MOUSE!!" So that confirmed it, Yogi does have BIG ears!! heheheee.. |
