| Inside Outside Confusion I'm new here and at wits end... I have a 7 month old female that we have tried every potty training tool imaginable on - From wee pads and newspaper(which she tears apart), doggie pans (tries to eat the litter), diapers (slips off or just goes in them), etc. Nothing seems to be working and I have to admit my family and I are probably the reason. When we got her in December she was barely over a pound so we chose not to force the issue with potty training. We just thought it best to use any restroom in our house for this purpose and we have four of them. Meaning after each wake up or after each meal...She was taken to a bathroom. Now that the weather is warmer, we've started taking her outside as much as weather permitting. These outtings have been nothing short of her anxiously waiting to PLAY rather than potty - No matter how long she's outside. Once inside, any floor area close to, near, around or in a bathroom is free game! It's been about two steady months now; is it too late for us to break the cycle? Or, should we just give this potty thing a little more time? P.S. Suggestions on how to properly go about either inside or outside training would be GREATLY appreciated! |

| Hi and welcome to YT......I would say give her more time outside. Take her out as soon as she wakes up, or about one hour after she eats. Get her on an outside schedule. She sure is pretty.... |

| She is REALLY cute. If you want to do outside training, try bells and crate training. If she's still very small, you'll only want to do short periods of time and then carry her immediately outside. She is waiting until she's on the floor because she's never gone on grass before and it feels wierd to her, she is used to going on the floor. Just spend a lot of time outside and praise her when she goes in the grass. Don't go inside until she goes! She will get used to it quickly and probably prefer it. Just stock up on some good treats.

| A thought Are you using pee-pee pads inside? If so, just bring a soiled one outside where you want her to go. Are you saying a command, like "go potty" inside? Use this outside. On a nice day, try to keep her out for a long time supervised. She probably just have to go. Walking her around the neighborhood, letting her smell all the "pee-posts" may help her to accept going outside. My two boys regularly use pee-pee pads, but also go outside when they are in the yard, on the deck, or walking. Relax and be calm and soothing to her. Use treats in the beginning and lots of wild praise!!! Be persistent, but never raise your voice. Lots of people only use pee-pee pads for their pets. It's just a little inconvenience when traveling with them. Good Luck, and keep us posted.

| I have two dogs and my little 7-month old pup readily pees wherever he smells that the other dog has gone. And, of course, once he started peeing outside, he does it everytime he goes out. Are there any places you can take your little girl where other dogs have pee'd? This may help her get started. Good luck! Carol Jean |

| Thanks for the suggestion on other dog smells. We've tried that idea with Muffin and her BIG sister (a Mastiff - that's her in the background) - But, threw that idea out of the window when Muffin was accidentally weed on by Zena. We thought she'd gotten sat on but turned out to be a dripping mess! |

| Hi and welcome to YT, you have a beautiful babe , I can see why it would be hard to scold or discipline her, she has the face of an angel. It has been so cold here and recently very very muddy, but now that it is starting to dry up we started using a little spray on his pee pad and also in his exercise pen outside. We have been trying to get Bailey to do his business outside for a couple of weeks, but after using the scent spray he finally did a pee pee outside yesterday.....so I am thinking it is working for me, might be worth a try?....hang in there it will come, you are doing great and sounds like you are very patient with her.

| I know with my Abby I take her out as soon as she gets out of her crate in the morning and the afternoon. I also have been taking her out every one to two hours and after she naps, eats or plays for an extended period of time. She has kind of gotten the hang of it. She starts running in circles in front of the door when she wants to go. I think the thing that worked best for her is just consistency. Don't get me wrong she still is not totally potty trained and if we are not watching her 24/7 she will go where ever she pleases. But don't give up just stick to and keep at she will learn eventually. |
