| Simon and Hallie are going to get me evicted! I have tried the water bottle, the can of coins, the clicker, the whistle, and I cannot get them to stop barking out my back window. I am going to evict myself soon. I do not want to live in the dark but everytime I open the curtains they go crazy. I just don't know what to do anymore. Anyone have any suggestions? |

| We just saw this on the Dog Whisperer and tried it and it is working. You cup your hand and put it over your dogs muzzle when he barks and say no bark. You dont have to do it with any force just put it lightly over theri nose. After doing this a couple of times all you will need to do is say no bark. Also I have 2 dogs too so I couldnt do the cup over the nose to both of them at once so I started with Chachi because he is the alpha and Jewels is the follower. Now that I only have to tell Chachi no bark I do the cup thing with Jewels. This has not stopped them form trying to bark completely yet but I have only been doing it for less than a week. The barking has significantly been less though.

| I can SOOOO relate to your problem. I have two guard rottweiler yorkies. Woke me at 6 am this morning to let me know the neighbor's were having a yard sell. Biscuit never barked when we first got him but Jolene had now corrupted him. I will certianly try your advice chachi and see if it works. Otherwise, I'm getting doggy earplugs!!

| Stewie doesn't bark that much, but when he does, I pull him off the back of the couch (where he stands) and I put him on his back and cover his mouth and say "no bark" (if you put them on their backs, they know that you are alpha). If he still doesn't stop I tell him he's going to go in his cage and he usually stops. If he doesn't stop, then I actually put him in his cage for timeout. (I think I have only actually had to put him in timeout a total of 3 times since i've had him)

| Can you keep the pups gated away from the back window?

| My Yorkie is definitely not much of a barker (I lucked out!!!). But, if he does start barking (usually at a person or another dog outside) -- I just go get him and tell him "No no" -- and take him someplace else in the house and get him interested in doing something else. From my Yorkie's point of view - all he knows is that barking is "No no" and that he's not allowed to do it - and that he will immediately find himself someplace else doing something else. Even when he was a pup - if he thought he was going to do a little barking, I'd pick him up and say "Oh stop it," interrupt his barking, and we'd do something else. I know it's cute when a little pup looks up at you and barks (especially their first few little barks) -- but I put the nix on his barking right from the get-go. I don't think I ever let him bark more than twice without stopping him from the day I got him. (I tried to keep him from learning that there was a "barking session" inside of him.) And, I really think this is one reason he rarely barks now. Anyway - don't we know that all dogs are different..... Carol Jean |
