| Crying in the car Hi, I have a question about the behaviour of my yorkie (8 months now). Whenever we take him with us in the car, he sits on the backseat with his harness attached to the safetybelt. After we've been driving for a few minutes, he will start crying very loudly and won't stop whatever we do or say to him. It's not like he's afraid, he even likes to go to the car when we walk by it. Also his tail is up during the trip. Taking him on the passengers lap doesn't help. His crying sounds like he his beaten to death After we arrive everything is fine again. What do you guys think is going on in his mind? Anyone has a simular experience? |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I have had screamers. I'm certain other drivers think I'm killing a dog. With Trace, it was better to ignore him. If you said anything or tapped on the crate...any kind of acknowledgement brought it on louder and longer. He finally quit doing it altogether. My newest is a screamer too. She would scream the entire 3 mile trip to my office. Now she stops screaming if you talk to her....so now I ride around looking like I'm talking to myself Btw, she's gotten better in only 1 week....the screaming now stops in a 1/2 mile....

| Mine do the same thing! They whine and whine! I just talk to them the whole time I am in the car and that way they know that I am with them!

| Try a peanut butter kong. Why cry when you can lick peanut butter? Also try a car seat. We had a rental car while our car was in the shop last week and I took out Loki's carseat. We took him on a short trip and he was on my lap (I wasn't driving but I still prefer not to do that) and he was very uneasy. He is so used to his comfy, high, protective car seat that he prefers it to a lap now. I think it makes him feel safer. So, possibly try that?? Loki used to SCREAM in the car if he was in a crate. Once we got him a car seat he was fine and would settle in. Luckily we figured it out when he was about 4 months old so he's used to it, but I think it would help a dog of any age be happy in the car.

| Both my dogs love their high carseats. The can look out the windows and see everything - and for a longer drive, they both eventually curl up and take naps. Carol Jean |
