| SOMEONE PLEASE HELP I"M LOSING IT!!!!!! My baby Princess is 4 months old, and i am completely in love with her, however, for the past week or two she has been completely unmanageable. First, she does not let us sleep in the morning, she starts barking, crying, and pushing the gate in the kitchen, and she won't stop. She used to not make a sound until one of us opened the bedroom door, but for the past week or two, she is our annoying alarm clock, that just won't quit! In addition, she completely does not listen to us, she is like a little ball of fire who runs around like a maniac around the house, and my husband and I can't even catch her most of the time. She began chewing up walls, and generally just runs around like a maniac. I don't know what to do. I work and go to school, and so does my husband, still we give her a lot of attention. She is gated in our kitchen, which is not huge, but has more than enough room for her to run around. PLEASE someone help, any advice will really be appreciated. i don't know if this is normal for dogs, maybe this is just a stage, but i need my sleep!!! |

| Hope this helps a little! It sounds like she is just lonely or bored and taking it out on you and your husband. They are smart little cookies. I also have a young yorkie. She is 5 months and does have an attitude at times however, I notice that when she acts like that, she needs to get out and run or go for a walk. Either that or when she gets overly tired, she is a brat. I am trying to train her that everytime I say "COME", she immediately responds. We use lots of carrots, she loves them and they are good for her. When she is running outside and I say "Zoey, COME, she knows that she gets a treat, and comes right in. Every once in awhile I have to repeat it a couple of times and raise my voice. So far, it is working.....we'll see. Usually, if I raise my voice and say "STOP", she will. Have you trained her to sit and stay? Does she do it? They seem to be just like kids. They need to know their boundries and need to be disciplined when they cross them. I hope this helps. | how about letting her sleep in a crate in your bedroom. my bunjee hated to sleep by himself in the kitchen at night when he was younger. he'd cry and whine to no end. when he sleeps in the bedroom, he'll only whine when he needs to get up to pee, usually once or twice in the middle of the night. and when go back to sleep once he goes and i put him back in his crate. he's gotten a lot better about sleeping alone or just being by himself for a few hours at a time since he's a little older now (he's 6 months this week). as for chewing the walls. she's teething, so she'll try to chew anything and everything. for bunjee, i sprayed bitter apple on the walls and other areas he liked to chew. he doesn't like the taste so he quit chewing those areas. as for obedience, yeah, yorkies are a bit of a spit fire with a mind of their own. your little one can probably benefit from a course in obedience training. the trainers can give you a better idea about how to handle your puppy. i found that bunjee will do nearly anything for a bit of cheese. good luck! |

| I believe I would start doing some training to keep her mind occupied. Sounds like she wants more to do. They are smart and they need mental stimultion. But NEVER chase her, she thinks it's a game. Maybe try keeping a leash on her in the house when you are there, just let her drag it, but at least you won't have to chase her to catch her. and Last but not least, make sure she recognizes you as the alpha dog. |

| Thank you Thank you so much for your responses. I heard about the bitter apple spray, i will definetely get it this weekend. I don't know what else to try. I would love to have her sleep with us, but i think its improtant for her to have her own place, plus she is a very light sleeper, so if one of us gets up to use the bathroom or get a drink of water, she will wake up the other. I just don't know what to do and i feel liek whatever i do is wrong... |

| does she bark when she wakes up at night? maybe it's a good routine for the person who wakes up to take her out of her crate and get her to go potty then put her back when going back to bed. remember, dogs are pack animals. they like to be with their pack and are terribly distressed when they feel like they're being abandoned, ie left to sleep alone. her natural instinct is to make lots of noise so that the pack can find her again. you know you're going to be back, but she doesn't. she needs visual reassurance. my bunjee was nearly 5 months before he started feeling more comfortable about being left alone and doesn't have separation anexity as badly as he used to. he's still a light sleeper too and will get up and follow me whenever i get up at night to use the bathroom or get some water, and then follow me back to bed (his own bed, but in the bedroom). he doesn't care if my husband gets up tho. he'll perk up, see that it's hubby, then go back to sleep. |

| it'll pass... Hi, I'm so sorry to hear that but trust me it will pass... My puppy, Preston, who is 4.5 months wakes us up EVERY morning. He sleeps in a crate next to our bed... What I usually do is check to see if there is any poop on his pad and clean it because sometimes that's what bothers him. If not, I'll put him in bed with us for a tiny bit (10 minutes) and whisper to him sweetly and he falls back asleep! It's better, for me, than having him cry for an hour that keeps us awake... He's just a baby so I'm trying to be patient but it is hard. Hang in there! |

| puppy stage.... you're experiencing the wonders of puppy stage. Granted every doggie is different but stick with your house rules and make sure she knows your boss. It'll get better in time. I hate puppy stages.... it's a lot of work.... but the end result from good training is a best friend for life. Good Luck! |

I can't tell you how many nights I played with her to tire her out...I actually liked it but don't miss it either They DO settle down....give her time and eventually she'll be on your schedule | |

| Hi, I know this is sometimes a difficult time. Our Yorkie, Gypsy, is almost 5 months old. She sleeps in a crate next to my bed and doesn't wake up until we do. She has slept there since the first night we brought her home.....maybe she just wants to be near you guys? It might be worth a try.....good luck!

| I swear I can picture you trying to catch her as I read your post... I could not help but laugh and see so much of my Pixie in it! Running around like a total loon! My husband thinking she was a total terrorist! And she is! It gets better... And then it gets worse.... And then it gets better again.... and I'm not sure when, but all of a sudden you look down and say wow! Look at our girl... Our amazing lil girl! I swear you'll look back and laugh... You'll read posts just like this and laugh some more! But for now.... Find a good puppy class and make friends with others who are feeling your pain! You'll really find alot of help in a puppy class. Its good stuff. I loved every minute of ours!!!

| I think someone needs obedience training :-) As far as the mornings - Loki used to be up with the sun ready to play. Now he tends to wait for my alarm clock, but once it goes off (or at the same time on the weekends) he's up ready to play. If I throw his ball for him for a few minutes, let him out, feed him, let him out again (all this takes 10 mins) he will go back to bed. In fact, I do these things before I leave for work and my husband says Loki crawls back in bed with him after I leave. Loki doesn't understand the concept of weekends, he just thinks it's Loki Day! Anyway, for those mornings you need more sleep - let her out to pee and give her a frozen kong. It's pretty safe for her to have unsupervised and then she will be busy while you get more sleep! She also sounds bored. Have you considered doggie daycare? They come home VERY tired. She is probably waking up early because she is sleeping all day. I know she can run around, but I bet she's just laying there or sleeping when no one is playing with her or home. Try playing A LOT at night time or going on a LONG walk and she might sleep later.
