| how often should I be taking him out? I am trying to housebreak Snickers to go outside, things are going pretty well, I have been taking him out every hour because I thought he should be able to hold it for that long, (he is 16 weeks) but yesterday it was like he had to pee every half hour! I don't expect him to be housebroken right away, don't get me wrong, but should I be taking him out more frequentley? If someone could give me some input I would appreciate it.

| Yorkie bladder is very small so he can't hold too much water in it. Plus he is only 16 weeks old. He will need to go quite often but not sure about every hour. But if you think he is going out too much you could be giving him too much water or he could have a urinary infection. sorry, probably not much help. |

| My Yorkie is also 16 weeks and he pees on average no more than 5-6 times per day. I offer him water only during his feeding which is twice a day. Trainers will tell you that puppies don't need that much water. If you leave the water bowl out all day, he will urinate constantly. You should offer him water only with his meals. Eventually, he will realize that he needs to drink as much as he needs in one sitting, and you will be able to control his peeing. If you are not offering water all day long, you should call the Vet. |

| okay, well I do leave his water out all day, so I guess that would be the problem. I have just alway left water out all day for my sheperd mix so I did the same for Snickers. I wasnt sure how much water they needed. Thanks for your suggestions I am going to try that and see if it works.

| Luigi is now 6 monthes old, and from the time we got him, I always left water out for him. And he goes outside 5-6 times a day. There have been 2 times that I was unable to get home during the day to let him out and he was in there for 8 hours, and he did not have one accident.!!!! So they can hold it for awhile. They should be fine for about 4-5 hours at a time. I started taking him out in the beginning every hour but most of the time he wouldn't go. He would go about every 3 or 4 times when I took him out every hour. So I startred waiting 2 hours to take him out. Then after he was used to that, I would take him every 3 hours. And when he got used to that, I now take him out every 4 hours. And of course, when we wake up and always ALWAYS before bedtime, even if he was just out not long before that!!! So, they can have water all day, which my breeder told me to never take that away, they can dehydrate so fast. And they can hold thier peepee if you train them the right way!!!! |

| Bearly Going Hi, new to this site. I just bought a yorkie 2.5 days ago. He is 8 mos. old-breeder breeds only to show-so holds her pups until she decides if they are show quality. Peanut is 3.2#. Exetremely quite (which worries me) He only pees in the am when-I get him out of his crate--and then around 4 at night. I take him out about every 2 hours but he just walks around. He won't drink unless i hold the dish and he eats about 1 tbsp of food each meal-which is 2 x a day. Even if I leave it out he won't eat any more than that. His color seems good, his eyes and the vet said he was okay but I am worried. |

| Bailey's 13 weeks old and goes to the bathroom, I swear every half hour. But he has food/water down all the time. I take him out every 20 min and that seems to be working |
