| Yes it's normal. How old is she? When they are that young they cannot hold it and do not know when they need to go. It will start to get better, just praise praise praise when she goes outside. She will learn that is where she is supposed to go and will start to go there when she can hold it. Don't limit, but control water intake (Loki used to drink the entire bowl, no matter how much was in it, then he had to pee every 5 mins) and don't give her run of the house. Take her out every 10 minutes if that's what it takes, that's what we did. (Yes it sucks, but it's only temporary.) Soon it was every 30 mins, and we still take Loki out about once every hour or two, but he lets us know when he needs to go.

I Love Thor Donating Member | It sounds like you are doing everything right. She will get it soon. Just keep taking her out every 15-30 mins, after every nap, after every meal...she will get it, hang in there! |

| I am so glad to hear someone else having the same problem! I just got my first yorkie this Sat and he is only 8 weeks old. It has been raining so taking him out is a real problem so I just keep taking him to his pee pee pads. I hope this will not be to confusing for him later. |

| So when CAN they begin to hold it??? When I have Bella in the kitchen (gated!) she'll run to the pad and use it (poo and pee). When she's in her larger crate (w/the litter box) she'll use it fine. But when I have her on her lead (tethered to me or leg of chair w/box or pad nearby) she won't make it to her box in time-and it's really close! I hate always having her grated or crated but there are times when I need to get stuff done (believe it or not!) and I have to have her in there. I feel so bad though! When I'm showering and she's gated, she HOWLS!!! |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Potty problems Ok I just got my yorkie and he is 16 weeks old but I am speaking from past experience with other dogs. A small dog or even sometimes the bigger ones will tinkle slightly from excitement when you get home or they get super excited. Aside from that the other mistakes that she is making is just that. It's like when you potty train a baby. They tend to get into things and forget that they have to go or miss the signal that their brain sends them and then when they do realize it's too late. So bear that in mind and be patient...easier said than done. I know...lol. Potty training for toy breeds from what I have read and experienced can go from one extreme to the other. My first Shih Tzu was totally house broken by the time he was six months. While my second refused to be housebroken. I think if you are persistent and take a deep breath you will be fine. It' sucks to say this but it will take time. There is no set age as to when they can and will be housebroken. Good luck. I so far am doing decently with my new guy Lex. Starting tomorrow he will start getting to go potty outside. Puppy hugs from me and Lex and good luck to you.
