scared of new people Hi, I have a 6 month old puppy that is very scared of shadows, noises and new people. She snaps at people when they try to touch her and she also growls at them. We got her when she was 4 months old and she snaped at me the first day, but from then on she's the sweetest most affectionate puppy with us. How can I teach her not to be afraid of strangers and not to bite them.

You should take her to puppy classes and get her out more in public so she can get used to being socialized. Make sure that you let her feel safe and keep others safe around her until she is more comfortable. All the best!

This morning a friend that Suki had growled and snapped at came over. When she saw him she automatically withdrew. He tried to pet her but she snapped at him, so I gave him a piece of her favorite treat and he offered it to her. She smelled it and took it from his hand ever so gently, and before he left she let him pet her. I think we are making progress! Thank you for your suggestions, she does need to socialize more.

I think it's genetics. My pebbles is always scared of strangers or new people. She doesn't snap but she hides and she will not let anyone carry her or touch her. Even if a stranger offers her treat she will refuse it. It takes her a while to adjust to people. She barks and growls too so i think they just need to time to adjust to people. I think we need to socialize our dogs more by taking them to puppy class or maybe walk them at the park.
