| Does anyone know how to Bell Train? I was wondering if anyone has ever Bell Trainned their Yorkie to ring a bell hanging from a door when it has to go out to go potty? I have heard of this but I never got the details on how this trainning was accomplished. If anyone does know how Please by all means let me know, Thanks so much. |

| ME! ME! <hand waving frantically in the air> Call on me! I've trained several dogs to ring a bell to go outside. Just hang it on the doorknob of the door that they go in and out of to pooty. It will ring naturally every time you go in and out, but you can give it a jingle to be sure that they notice it. It doesn't take long before they start ringing the bell to be let out. This is the hard part. They want out but don't always have to go to the bathroom. Have patience. Every time you hear the bell ring, RUN to open the door. Joey at first sometimes stood there and stared at me like "why did you do that?" That's okay. It's how they learn that bell ringing = door opening. The key is be consistent. Open the door for them every time they ring the bell. Before you know it, they're ringing the bell and going out to potty. Good luck!

I would like to train Cash to use a bell also... We have stairs to go downstairs to our front door, and a baby gate at the top.. so it would probably be best for me to put the bell on the baby gate right? Same dynamics of it all right?...haha

| Wosie is scared of the bell I have a string of them, so I am going to take some off. I think it's too loud for her. It would be great to get them both trained with ringing the bell...Thanks for the tips!!

| I've used the bells LOTS with training . make sure the sting or whatever comes way down so they can reach it. if you think it's sto loud just keep a bell or 2 near the bottom. RING IT EVERYTIME you take them out to potty YOURSELF. I actually pick them up , take their paw and make themhit it before going out. It might take awhile but they willget it eventually. LOL On the other had...,,,LOL.. here is always a smartypants who figures out ringing the bell means going outside so she will ring the bell ALLDAY when it's warm out
