| 2 year old never potty trained A woman who knew my son years ago posted on Facebook about giving her 2 year old Yorkie away, I have wanted a Yorkie for ages, I asked the normal questions, health problems, being around other dogs and of course is he housebroken? She said no problems, housebroken, only hates being alone and she works 12 hour days and he was alone to much. Travelled 2 hours to get this beautiful boy and the woman's mother said to me 3 times about how her daughter never got him housetrained and he poops and pees all over the place. Now I am not a bold person, I just thought oh wow I was lied to....but the long desire to have a Yorkie baby kept me from saying anything. Came home and took him out a few times in the first 90 minutes, he didn't do anything and after the last time he peed on my carpet, I have not potty trained a dog in over 11 years and he was a puppy not a 2 year old. I need help!!! What do I do???Is it even possible????? |

| I'm no expert but I would treat him like a baby. Tether him to you and take him out every 30 minutes if necessary. Lots of praise and training treats when he does good. It's a shame you were lied to.

| I would suggest when taking him out side always taking him to the same spot and always use a key word. I use the word potty. Give a treat and give a lot praise.

| He peed twice in the same place on my dining room carpet this evening, I was wondering if I should get pads and place one in that area while continuing to take him out and train? Open to all recommendations. |

| Keep him confined to one room with no carpeting and block off the entrance or get a X-pen or Iris pen to confine him, no free roam of home until he is 100% potty trained. This pup is use to making where ever he pleases, now you have to undo this bad habit created by the prev. owner. My boy was a 2.5 yo rescue, I didn't know if he was house broken or pad trained, didn't know what word was used for pee or poop. I bought him home, took him out to the yard and used the word pee-pee and poo-poo and waited until he made, when he did I made a big fuss, happy dance, clapping hands, if he peed I praised saying good boy pee-pee, or poo-poo, it was obvious he was house broken because he never used the pad I set down for him, and he let me know when he had to make (lucky me). When you take him out he must know it's to potty, so keep repeating the word pee-pee or poo-poo over and over or what ever words you use, treat and praise when he potties, happy dance, clapping hands shows him he did something good and he will want to make you happy. Keeping him on a potty schedule is ideal, feed same time every morning and night, wait 30 minutes then take him out, even if he made indoors still take him out, if he makes before 30 minutes then you know you have to get him out sooner, dogs are creatures of habit, if you keep to a schedule they will know when it's time they go out to potty, you must be consistent in feeding time and potty time. Tethering him to you is also a good way of catching him and taking him out before he can make in the house. Although he is 2 yo he is still very trainable.

| My 11 wk puppy by my bed room door and I placed her puppy litter close it and it helped she started using the pan in that area but it was just in the way. I move the litter box to an area I can watch her she has her harness on with a 6 ft leash. She has enough room to play and go to her litter box. Lol I sit in a chair where I can play with her and watch that she uses the litter. When she does I use my clicker and give her a treat as a reward.

| I'm a big supporter of crate training and it worked very well for my two yorkies. I tried ex-pen and potty pads. It just caused me more grief because my two yorkies thought carpet was okay to pee on. So I started from scratch and lots of consistency. Whenever the dog didn't pee or poop when let out the crate, they went back in and we tried again in a few minutes. Lots of praise and treats when the dogs did what they were supposed to and its worked in our favor. You can retrain your adult rehome, just be patient and protect your floors. If you don't want your puppy to pee on the carpet, don't let him near it. Use a enzyme cleaner, when you catch them in the act, correct them. Some dogs need more correction than others (I learned this in dog class) and most yorkies it doesn't take much but they get the point when you want them to do something.

| I'm in no way an expert but what just worked for me and my 15 week old yorkie was just putting the pads down. He never used them at first but after two days of just leaving them out he's now peeing and pooping on his potty pads. |
