| Weekend course was..... As I had seen Brenda work before I was surprised at the fact that she was well gone to the dark side. She got her hands on a dog that she thought was not listening and well made an example of it. She got it by the halti and did not let go till it looked at her. It's front feet where off the ground and it was not happy. "It looks worse than it is" was what she said. It looked and was bad and well that was that for me. I finished out the day and did not return with my dog. I did not let her near my girl again. I said thank to her not because she taught me to do a thing but that for once I listen to my heart and gut and ran. I learn not a thing that I could not have learn from better educated sources on being kind and respectful of living things. My girl had a rough night of being shaky and jumpy so we spent the next day at the beach. The whole thing was badly organized and those of us that brought our dogs a long distance where left to pretty much fend for our selves. Our forms that should have come, arrived late but those living in the area got theirs. We got parking spaces close but that is about it. I found that I paid for a working spot and got nothing for it and the next day A Chow was brought in to join the group. ??? like I was pleased that that was going to happen as well. As for personal remarks on Brenda's manner will leave that alone other then to say I found the disrespect she showed those that came before her in her training annoying, The lack of acknowledging Truid Rugass and what she brought to training dogs and the language of dogs stunned me. That Brenda had the nerve to say Truid was wrong in anyway is nothing short of laughable. The other thing as well was that she had read my forms where she had not many of the others and I got to hear by little pokes just what I have done wrong without a ton of info as to how to change any of it. The fact I have my girl medicated do to anxiety and I also use a muzzle to introduce her to strange dogs, a poke at my full time Job as a Nanny. and it goes on. Oh yes and we got to hear about how she hates being talked about on lists after that fact. Well to bad she been talked about good or bad as I had said I would let you now how it when. She took one look at my girl walking in the door of a cold building dressed in a jogger to keep her warm as well as support her in containing stress in the T Touch way and did not wish to work with her or me as she got the wrong idea of who and what we are. The corker of the day was when she said kind and thoughtful things of every other dog in the room but mine, she called stupid. "Who knows what the terrier is thinking" I call it a wasted of a trip except My girl got to play on a beach and hang out like a normal dog. A first for her. I would not recommend taking a dog to her in any way shape or form and after reading her latest book it not worth it either I would get Triuds new addition first. Some of her other works can be adapted to be used in a kind manner but with other training books taht are based on the fact dogs have souls and need to be respected I go with them. Joy |

| Oh Joy, I am so sorry. I know how much you wanted to go to this seminar and learn knew things. What a hugh disappointment for both of you except at the beach. This woman had no reason to be a bit$h to you...and let me tell you from growing up with large dogs and having large dogs (which I loved) nothing compares to the courage and tennacity that these little terriers or terrors have. Again, as many of us know we have to know as much as we can about this breed to protect them from vets, bad breeders, other dogs and trainers/behavorists now..........grrrrrrrrrrrrrr... This guy is pretty amazing to watch. Go to his website...I ordered the DVD to see what he has to say. He has worked with many rescue organizations and I like what he had to say about his own small dog. http://www.dogpsychologycenter.com/

| Brenda in action I read Joy's post with great dismay. I too was at that Brenda seminar, and might I add, the difference she made in the dogs was not only remarkable, but humane and gob-smacking. I saw her do nothing that made me worry for a dog - I simply saw her make them all improve one by one. Improvements were larger for some dogs than others, depending on teh skill of hte handler. Brenda is a terrier woman, and her jokes about terriers are numerous. I too am a terrier owner, and personally, I thought her poking fun of my dog's flaws was entertaining. She understands these little beasties and is really funny to listen to. And as for Brenda trashing other trainers, she gave credit to Tuurid for her wonderful work - while Brenda might be incredibly witty and funny, she is also professional. Her methods have not changed. She is still the same old Brenda, and has adapted and evolved as we would all expect. Is she heavier handed on dogs? Definitely not. Out of all of the working dogs, so far I have received heart felt thanks from six of the working dog participants, and almost a third of the audience. Most want to come back next year. What I find most despicable about Joy's post is that she decided to trash Brenda on the net. Brenda said repeatedly that if anyone was uncomfortable with what she was doing, to please let her know. There is nothing worse than people who stand by silently, and then preach to the rest of the world about their own perceptions. If something had have been said at the seminar, in the open and welcoming forum, it could have been explained and understood - or even disagreed respectfully. But to take it to this forum is simply slander and should not be allowed. Monique Anstee Last edited by simonandhallie; 01-20-2006 at 02:03 PM. |

| Monique, I find it interesting that your one and only post on YorkieTalk is in defense of this trainer. Do you, by chance, work with her? Joy had shared her excited anticipation of this seminar prior to going. I see nothing wrong with her letting us know that it didn't turn out as hoped. You should also note that this trainer - whoever she is - has only been referred to as "Brenda". I haven't a clue who she is as there are alot of Brendas in the world; I think you'd have a hard time proving slander. If I misunderstood your intention in coming here, I apologize. If you are here to learn about Yorkies, welcome!

| Isn't Google a wonderful tool? I see, Monique, that my suspicions were correct. You were the "Event Information Contact" for this training event.

| Joy, I'm so sorry that this didn't turn out to be all that you hoped it would be. I know you had high hopes. I have to say how proud I am that you listened to your heart and walked out. Suspending a dog by a halti is not humane in my book either. Suspending a dog who already has aggression issues (most likely based on fear) by someone who claims to be a positive trainer is a travesty. We're glad to have you back!
