| Well, it's been over a year... please help! Alrighty, so my little Calvin is now about 15 months old. We moved about two months ago and I knew training might take a few steps back but this is worse than I expected... A little background. At our own home Calvin was pretty much potty trained as far as urinating went. He would either go on a pee pad or toward the end of our stay at our old home, he was starting to notify us when he had to go out and pee. As far as poop goes, we had a pen that he stayed in when we were gone and he would go in there, otherwise he would go when we let him out. Now at the new house, he doesnt seem to use his pee pads at all. We have a room that we put him in when we are gone and the floor is concrete. He seems to pee on the pee pads in there, but the pee pads we have throughout the house he does not use at all. We are catching him peeing on the carpet from time to time. Also, he sleeps in bed with my wife and I at night and EVERY night he jumps out of bed and apparently goes to our downstairs and poops. Sometimes he does it upstairs as well. What should we do? We let him out first thing in the morning, and first thing when we get home and usually a few times throughout the evening and we try to every night before we go to bed. How do we get him out of the habit of going in the middle of the night, and how do we get him back to using pee pads? I have noticed he never pees on solid ground or hardwood, only carpet. Thank you!!!! |

| Start over ! You will need to restrict his area & Do Not let him have free roam of the house till he gets back on track. |

| can you explain a little more? are you basically saying dont let him out of our site when we are there? Also, if we catch him "going" how should we react? hes basically couped up until we get home and then he hangs out around us. The pooping / peeing generally only occurs overnight. I dont know at this point if we would be able to cage him overnight... we could close the bedroom door, i would imagine hell either bark to get out or hell go in our bedroom |

YT 500 Club Member | If it's about the same time at night he jumps off your bed. Take him out, or set alarm clock at that time. He will get better if he knows he must go out to pee, poop. Then before you know it he will sleep all night with you.

| Mickey is 2 years old and always has to go out in the night. I have tried all that you have, to no avail. I have learned to get up when he does and let him out. Sorry, I have no answers for you.

| I think you need to be more focus on training to improve his behavior. I know there's a lot of puppy parents that have the same problem before that succeed to this kind of behaviour. Some other parents apply their dogs for some training program. Try it don't worry he will learn it soon once you apply him to a training classes. |

| When we are gone we lock him in a storage room. He has a crate in there with blankets and pee pads. He pees on the pee pads when he is in there. He usually doesnt poop but when he does he goes on the concrete. I just dont understand why he has stopped using the pee pads when he is out. At our old house he always used pee pads, but there also wasnt carpeting in the upstairs so maybe thats why. The two pee pads we have upstairs have been clean for about a month. How do we get him to realize we want him to pee on the pee pads? As far as pooping goes, he is pretty good, the overnight thing is the only problem so we are going to keep our door closed at night. If he needs to go to the bathroom hopefully he barks at the door and we can wake up and take him out. Hopefully he doesnt go on our bedroom carpet. |

Moving always adds another twist to training or retraining. Seeing as how my boy is older, (he just turned 8) when we first moved into this house last December, I let him have the master suite while I was at work. Well... the old owner must have had a dog as well, and the master suite must have smelled like something that Kaji would and did pee everywhere in that room. I locked him in the master bathroom, big sizable bathroom with tile floors (easy to clean) and all that did was made him scream bloody murder. It took some time, but we finally found what works. I close the hallway door, and the doors to the other rooms (including the master suite) so he has access to our room and the main bathroom with his piddle pads. He's much happier this way. He's in our room that has all his stuff, and lots of stuff that smells like me, and he has an easy to clean place for potty. It took some playing around, but we found what works. Don't give up!! You'll figure it out too..

| Ya, we realized that he tends to pee on carpet or rugs. If he is out of our site, so at our old house we put our area rug in storage. Since the upstairs was all hardwood we blocked access to downstairs, and he would use his pee pads. At our new house the family room is carpet and there is no way to block it, so i dont know what to do. At night, we could leave the bedroom door open but block the hallway off so he can only go into the bathroom or the hall. The hall is hardwood. I would imagine he would use the pee pads if that was the case, but he might not wake us up and if the goal it to get him going outside it may be smarter to close the door so hopefully he barks to get out. Again, he may go on the carpet in our room... |
