Not sleeping through the night Bentley is 19 months old. He sleeps in his crate at night, and has been since we got him. He's been sleeping through the night for well over a year, occassionally getting up in the middle of the night to pee. His crate has been in our bedroom.
Recently he had regressed on his house training, so we've had to go back to basics on the potty training; restricting his movements in the house, more frequent trips outside to the bathroom, restricting water, and crating him when he can't be monitored for periods as short as a few minutes to up to four hours. Prior to this, he had free roam of the house and we left him in the kitchen when we went out. This has been going on pretty much all summer, probablly since May.
Within the past four to six weeks, Bentley has slept through the night in his crate twice. He typically goes to bed at 11pm, gets up at 3am to go to the bathroom, then has difficulty settling down for the balance of the night. My wife and I will be up with him at least once, if not four or five times in one night. While it has improved (he used to start to bark as soon as we put him in his crate!), it's still taxing on us as we haven't had a full night's sleep in about a month. We have had to put his crate back in the kitchen so we can at least get a few hours a night. The only "solution" we find to be effective is to have him sleep on the bed with us. We don't see that as a long term solution however.
Any help to try to get Bentley back to where he was with sleep would be appreciated. |
