| I have 2 9month yorkies, 1 trained other isn't Hi, we purchased 2 miniature Yorkshire for both my daughters at christmas. One was the runt of the little being much smaller than the rest of the litter. We have had no problems with the smallest at all. Training good, little chewing nothing a chew stick hasn't solved but the other is a total nightmare. My partner wants to get rid of him. He is chewing everything in the house, if he manages to sneak upstairs he cocks his leg on the end of my bed whilst I am there, and I keep finding dried wee stains here and there in our home. He is digging holes all over our garden which we have spent so much time and effort in. We leave the door open so they can go out whenever they wish. He is very domineering of the little one which is also upsetting because I feel we aren't getting the best out of the smallest as he is cowering constantly as the largest pounds over him constantly over minding him. It would break my daughters heart of we were to get rid if him but I have dedicated a lot of time in him and his behaviour and it doesn't seem to be sinking in what he is doing is wrong. We are also very houseproud and it is heartbreaking for us to see this being destroyed by a dog. Any advice here would be helpful. Thanks for your time in reading my post. |

| A puppy that is not potty trained should NEVER have free roam of your home. I am not experienced enough to advise a play pen or ex-pen as I have never used either one, but he needs to be confined to a smaller area until he is fully potty trained, when he is not in his special area he must be watched carefully. Hard chew toys should always be available for him, he is but a baby in the teething stage. Yorkies need a lot of patience when training. Start teaching commands such as sit, stay, come, wait, leave it, drop it. 5 minute sessions through out the day works best. Terriers have short concentration spans, more then 5 minute training they have already lost interest. You must put some training work into this puppy, not just give up. Try puppy obedience classes, it trains YOU how to train a puppy. He is a baby, and babies LOVE to PLAY, they love to wrestle, tumble, zoom around the house, they have a lot of energy. When he get too rough with the little girl, stop the play, let him calm down, time out, he is a normal little yorkie. If the little girl was easier to train consider your self LUCKY, most baby yorkies are super hyper, have a lot of energy and needs to burn it off. I suggest obedience classes to properly train YOU how to train this little boy. Hopefully members with play pens and ex-pens can offer up their experience which would be better for this little boy.

YT 1000 Club Member | I wholeheartedly agree with Matese. I have 2 pups younger than yours and they are crated when they can't be supervised. I brought my female home first; she had a 2 month head start on my youngest male. Separate crates while inside for the first month, when they were taken outside my female was able to roam while my male was given an outside exercise pen to relieve himself. I tried to let them out together to urinate/poop all they wanted to do was play and when I brought them inside they peed on my floors after being out for an hour. After two months they still have a few accidents but they know within the 30 mins they're outside they need to handle their business. I also schedule feed which has helped me with predicting when they'll need to go outside. My oldest male marked my couch once and I made such a fuss he never did it again, he marks outside only now. An exercise pen outside may help since he's causing damage to your garden. Chews toys should always be available. Your pup will only do what you allow him to. |

| For the chewing what worked well for me is to spray bitter apple. You can buy it at most pet stores. Spray the spots they like to chew. It will leave a bad taste in their mouth and they will stop chewing there. It needs to be re-applied every week to 10 days. Sasha had chewed the drywall almost down to the stud before I started using this. I have to spray it on Max's splint because Sasha wants to chew that too! Max only chews his toys. Each one is unique and you have to learn to handle their differences. It's not always easy. Good luck!

| Bitter Apple does work well with most pups, but, do not be surprised if it does not work for yours. Out of 4 puppy yorkies, one little girl the taste of Bitter Apple did not faze her. Count on supervision not furniture spray protectors to keep your pup from chewing your furnishings.

| DITTO to what was said above. Bitter Apple didn't work for me on a different dog we had. Buddybear has had plenty of toys/chew things so that hasn't been a problem. Good luck. |
