| I had a dog incident this morning and came out with a bite on my nose! Some of you know that I have an older Shih Tzu with cancer who is ok right now. He just wants to be left alone or have a little time with me, without interference from anything else..aka Sunni and Bear (my daughters dog) So this morning I had Harry on my lap and was kissing him and giving him a little massage, when the other two dogs wanted in on the action. Harry flipped out and went for them and me picking him up quickly to keep them from hurting each other got bitten by Harry on my nose!! He actually broke the skin and I had a bloody nose I didn't yell at him, but its so 100% out of character for him. He's never gotten like that before....he was really really angry. He settled right down, and isnt aware really that he hurt me...I couldn't get mad at him, and just let out a big OUCH..all three backed off immediately. I'm not sure what to make of this. He had a bout of diareahha afterwards about 1/2 hour later. I took my two for a long walk after my daughter picked up her dog, and he was as happy as he could be. His health is so precarious I cant tell if thats whats bothering him, or just the other dogs annoy him. He used to be such a lovable freindly dog to everyone I feel so bad right now. Sunni has left him alone the rest of the day. She's got her own sorrows, missing Bear, lol. Any feedback welcomed. My nose is swollen and two bite marks on the right and one long one on the left, lol..and I'm supposed to get a new picture taken for my business cards on Tuesday |

| Poor Harry and you. I would definitely attribute the bite to him being ill. Infirm and older dogs who have lost some of their senses will sometimes bite. Martha Stewart was bitten on her upper lip by her aging Frenchie and had to have stitches. If possible, try not to put yourself in between the dogs if they go at it. When my boys have gotten into it, I raise my voice and make a really loud noise to get their attention. I realize this may not work in all situations, but you do risk injury if you physically intervene.

| If you must intervene just use your legs and step inbetween them blocking them and then with a firm calm voice tell them to stop. |

| Thanks for the advice. I've never really had this kind of situation before, and it really all happened so quickly. I know Harry wasn't going for me, he was going for the other dogs..but I picked him up so quickly and pulled him into me...it was really my fault. Things are much calmer today. Bear's gone home, and Sunni is much more obediant again. Its like the two of them together were very bad influences on each other. Harry is extremely happy that Bear is gone too, lol...there was just too much activity going on around him. He's much more relaxed today and seems to be happy. I will try to remember to step between dogs and stare them down....I literally did everything wrong!! and I have the nose to show for it, lol..Bear was such a bruiser..he was very stubborn and I really did find it hard to manage him at times...Sweetest dog in the world, but stubborn as a bull...in fact, I kept forgetting to call him bear and was calling him Bull..haha. |

| LOL - Bear sounds like a handful! A sick dog is likely to be pretty tense around normal, playful dogs, their weakness/sickness often stimulating other dogs' prey drive.

| Jill, Yes! Bear was a handful, lol. Things are so much calmer again. Harry slept on the pillow beside me last night, much to Sunni's dismay, lol. My little guy is content..thats what matters right now. |

| Bless sweet little Harry. Hope his days aren't too awful for him, poor baby. Hugs to that special little one, please, for me. And one for that Bear, too!
