| Going "outside" to potty is now a door game!! Sunni is trained to go outside now (wait maybe I am)..yay! But, she also knows that going to the door and looking at me with a little whine, gets me to bring her out. Not wanting to miss a real cue, I'm well trained and get up, haha. Now that the weather is nice and she's explored the neighborhood, she wants to be outside all the time. So, this has turned into Sunni has me doing what she wants! She goes potty 1/5 times I take her out. I don't make it fun now..we go, I wait, she runs around in circles (leashed)..we come back in. Its a pain, cause I really can't tell when its real. I tried to ignore her knowing we had just been out, and she will piddle right at the door, almost like I told you so!! The pee pads have gone from a utensil to a toy now. She's just shredding them. This just started a day or so ago, when the weather finally warmed up. |

| That's a pain in the butt if you have to get coat on put on then harness her up cuz now you won't know if she has to really go. I think maybe writing the time down when she last peed or pooped may help to determine if she really has to go or just wants snooping time. I get that with Cody, but for me I just have to open the back door. Most of the time he chases birds or that pesty squirrel.

| Thanks Matese. I've tried letting her just go out onto the deck, which is fine, its gated and no way for her to get through the posts. I even leave the door open for her to come and go. Hm, maybe thats the problem…she wants to come and go as she pleases, lol. I'm afraid to do that too much, cause she's so cute I'm afraid she'll be stolen. Tried the bell ringing thing for 1 day, haha..dismal fail! She loves to ring the darn thing and uses it as a toy Well, she's on the deck now with Harry. I just brushed her, to get ready for her Bath. She's gotta look pretty for tomorrow, lol. I've planned what she's wearing better then what I'm wearing. |

| I was told by someone that had trained their pup to go outside to potty by ringing a bell on the door, and then made it into a fun game of "Explore Outside Every 10 Minutes!"....they started giving a treat ONLY when she peed. I think that, in combination with watching your clock and observe the time she goes outside and then spacing the outdoor ventures every couple of hours....even if she DID dribble a little every 5 minutes she went out, she will never "stretch her bladder" to the point where she can even HOLD her bladder for 6-8 hours at a time! My mother used to tell me she could not understand how in the world a little 4# pup could run an entire family and the house as well, like my little Yorkie did! She had US all trained!!! |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | LOL I have one of those too. But over time you get to know when I want out cause I want out - or I have to go potty! And mine is a bell ringer. But the more enthusiastically he rings the bell the more I look for the squirrel in the backyard or the bird - and sometimes I let him go for it.....

| I got the bell - he never rang it, even to play with it. Tried taking him out regularly as he never 'told' me he needed to go. Finally when he was over year old and only marginally housebroken I gave up trying to housebreak him to outside. I should have bought stock in Natures Miracle. It's a good thing he's so cute. LOL By then it was January in northern Illinois and Pepper refused to step foot outside and the snow was taller than he is. So now he is happily pad trained. I have to admit it is easier as I don't have to worry about jumping out of bed in the morning to let him out or rush home if I've been out. I buy the bed pads (for humans) from Walmart as they are larger and much cheaper than the dog pee pads. |

| Another thing I thought of last night lol, Sunni is just a lil baby, life is new to her, walks, smells exciting to her, there is a big world out there for little babies, I think she just wants more exploring of this wonderful world of ours. Just I thought I had. Cody is like re-born again, leaving his city life and now living a country life, diff. smells, earth, grass, leaves, trees, and the wild life that trespasses in his yard, all new and exciting to him.

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Hi Miss Sunni My pup is 9 mos. he always ripped up wee wee pads so I had the washable ones (breeder sold, the money actually goes to Yorkie rescue) I did discover "fresh Patch" this is great! He pees on the grass - fresh patch but wants outside for #2I live in apt w- a balcony so I am lucky as he never liked #2 in house or his pen etc. But yes all of a sudden he goes to the door the all the time (am in NJ weather is 50's which is a heat wave lol.). Since its #2 it is easier to gage. I would try the fresh patch or the washable pads while fully training - I am still giving him treats. They love treats & praise! When he actually goes outside give treat & praise & have fun. If he doesn't go no talk nothing right in. The one w- the most patience wins! Hope that helps good luck! |

| Thats very helpful Cupacafe. I wondered if that grass would be worth a try. I took her into Hoboken yesterday for dinner with the family, and she was perfect. I brought a puppy pad and put it outside not the terrace. The door was kept open because it was so nice out everyone wanted to go inside and out, including Sunni. She did go on her pad at my nieces..just #1 She did the other on a walk right before we left…her first time to poo on a walk, lol. She didn't have any accidents….unless we HAVE to count the one at the foyer waiting to be buzzed in, lol…little piddle on the floor, but I wiped it up and no ones the wiser, lol. I'm going to look into the inside grass. Thanks for the tip!! |
