| New Puppy, Old Diva We have a 14-year-old queen bee Yorkie and will be getting our 13-week old male puppy next week. Cozy has shown some aggression before to my sister's havanese--we've never really let them play out their interaction for fear that Cozy might hurt her. We know we'll need to diligently supervise Cozy's interactions with the new puppy, and will make every effort to reassure her she's still the queen. She sleeps with us so we'll have the puppy sleep in a crate at least at first. Any tips from you experts on how best to introduce the puppy to the diva? We are getting a boy because of advice I read on here about the opposite sex being a bit easier to integrate with an adult dog. Thanks for your help. |

| Welcome to YT. That's a big age difference, sorry, I have no suggestions other then Cozy must always be first. First to eat, first to get petted, first to get attention when left alone and you come back home. Others will have more advise and suggestions. Good luck and congrats on your new lil baby boy.

| I have a 13 year old and we brought home a 10 month old boy. The older one is a male too. My older boy was not impressed that we brought a new one home and it took a few days for him to even warm up to the pup. It may be diff in your case for an older female. She may be more nurturing. It's been 8 months now and I do have to be careful not to exclusively make the older guy seem like the pack leader as he has a tendency to bully and my younger one is starting to stand his ground. So we have had a few minor fights. I do alternate with snacks and food who gets it first bc I feel as though it allows my older dominant boy to know that the younger one is on the same level. This is bc as I stated before my older boy is very dominant and he will tend to bully my younger one. He will randomly snatch toys away as well as treats and I don't leave them alone together. The younger one has an playpen and the older has run of the house if we leave. This is bc the youngster is smaller and I don't trust him alone as he may mark the house. Besides the small fights he has adapted well and although he doesn't care to be bothered by the youngster they do play quite well when he feels like it...I just think that as older dogs they don't want a change in their lives so that's why it takes some time to adjust. |

| Please keep us posted on how things workout. My 6-year-old female has not taken to our new puppy who is 10-weeks-old. She has allowed her to be closer to her, but there's still lots of barking and growling on both their parts. And the older one shows teeth frequently so I have to police their interactions. The younger one seems to taunt the older one at times. It's lots of work to show extra effort and attention with my oldest while training my youngest. Fortunately, the youngest is so EASY to train compared to the oldest. I have her pottying on demand already as well as coming and sitting pretty regularly. I'm amazed. I do hope my oldest feels like the Diva she is. She's incredibly "human". Good luck!!

| Thank you for your help. We don't want to do anything to disrupt Cozy's queen-dom, but we lost our 12-year old Yorkie recently and there's just such a void. I'll keep you posted as we go along, we'll pick up our new guy this weekend. |
