| Advice bringing in second dog Hi all. I currently have a 7 year old yorkie who I got when she was a pup. I stayed home with her as a pup and crate trained her in no time to do potty outside. She has had free run of the house for many years while we are gone….no need to crate her or put her in a room. She can hold it for hours on end, ha. I am getting an addition on monday. She is also a yorkie (Parti). So I would like to do the same training for potty as I did with my first. I am wondering how to handle a foreseen situation. When puppy is having her crate time, is it fine that my other dog is running freely and possibly going up to crate if pup is whining etc? Also, my dog eats Merrick dog food. Pup is coming eating Acana puppy. I bought acana to do transition. How early do I start food transition? My current dog sleeps at night in her crate….she doesn't have to but she loves it in there and goes in by herself when she is tired. I never use crate for any punishment so she sees it as a safe place. I did purchase another crate for new puppy. Is this right or should they share from the start at night? Would that help puppy or no? Thanks so much! |

YT Addict | I think they should have their own place. I am not the one to ask advise about two females, I have a 6 yo Biewer male and just got a 12 week male standard yorkie. They keep their distance right now. my senior sleeps with us, but the pup in hsi crate / pen in the kitchen at night and so far is fine with that. When he can hold it the whole night I will put his crate in the bedroom with us because he will be too small to be in the bed with us. I switched my pups food at nine weeks, he wasn't eating like he should and just watched his poops for consistency. Gradually change over it should be fine. |

| So if she is in her crate time do I need to put my other dog away or is it ok if my other dog is running around and maybe going up to the pup in crate? |

| While you are crate training the puppy, it is fine for your other one to be free.
