| Yorkie attacks other animals I have a male yorkie "Baxter" that is 6 yrs old, he tries to attack other animals when I walk him, and if he slips out the door he runs and attacks any dog or cat that is near. I don't know what else to do to get him to stop..HELP! I don't want to stop walking him, but it is so stressful to walk him when he acts like this.

| I can understand how stressful walks must be for you always having to worry if Baxter might hurt another animal or get hurt himself. But the other side is if you don't walk him he will have too much pent up energy and that is not fair to poor Baxter. I would look into finding a trainer/behaviorist who specifically deals with aggressive dogs. Here are a few links for Ohio Find a Board Certified Veterinary Behaviorist ACVB and Behavior | College of Veterinary Medicine

| My adopted 3 y/o boy is neutered and acts the same way. Taking him into PetCo, Pet Smart, Pet Supplies is a total embarrassment. He gets all worked up and tries to get out of the shopping cart. I cannot calm him down. I am concerned for his safety, another dog can feel threatened by this aggressive behavior. I am seeking a trainer in my area to see what can be done it correct this. So I know just how you feel.

| I may have to muzzle Baxter when we go out. although he'll still carry on and still try to get to the other animals, although he won't be able to bark or bite. That's my main concern, that he may hurt another animal

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Mine are all bark and no bite . . thankfully. They see a bird, dog, squirrel and go nuts but thankfully rarely give chase. I think that you lil fella could benefit from some intense training. It is something that if you have the time can be accomplished if not find a training willing to come to your home.

| Do you have a yard that is fenced in? Yorkies are small enough that hey can remain "homebound", that is, on his own property, and get plenty exercise to keep him healthy. I do not walk my dogs for several reasons, but I have a play ground set up in my back yard and we go outside and play for 1-2 hours at a time during the hot summer months,,,,kiddie pools, bubble machine, slip and slide, sprinklers, balls and soft frisbees......they get out in the morning for a couple of hours, then again late afternoon....they are fine and there are no walks out in public involved. Training classes may help with this aggression issue your pup may have, but if it doesnt help, and you have a fenced in back yard where you can interact with him in different activities, he doesnt need walks to be healthy! |
