| Determined to get out of the yard Hi everyone. For those of you who know me, I have acquired a female breeder dog in the past few weeks. I am working hard with her to try to get her to adjust to her new life. I have come across a VERY BIG problem. She is "determined" to get out of the yard. I have been going crazy trying to put barriers over every little spot she can find. I am just about to head out to get more tent pegs as we speak to anchor down the little plastic chain link fence we had to put up to keep Wallee away from the front gate. She keeps pushing her head under that so thus the reason for the tent pegs. All the time she is outside, she is pacing around the edges of the fence trying to find any little spot where she can squeeze through. She has gotten out 3 times on me when I turned my back for 2 minutes. (I am always outside with them). I have purchased a collar and a name tag with my phone number in case she manages to escape again, however was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why she is so obsessed with escape. I can tell she is stressed and desperate to get out as she has that look on her face where her eyes are popping and she is panting. I can sometimes get her to come to me and she will jump up on my knee but then she jumps down and starts all over again. Is the yard "overwhelming freedom" to her? Is it because she sees the fencing as a "cage"? I am at a loss and exhausted from trying to take her outside with me as Wallee loves to be out back "guarding" the yard all day. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I know this will make more work for you, but what I might do, is leash her and walk her out in the back yard. Also try to get her focussed on you by treats and game playing, bit by bit. Have you walked her outside yet? Beyond the yard, down the street n back again? The other idea is, there might be some sort of animal that is marking outside the fence, cats are notorious for this. If you walk with her outside the fence line see if she gets real interested in a particular spot or three outside your fence line.

| Hi there. I walk her all the time. She loves going for walks. She actually walks pretty well and of course gets very very excited when she sees a squirrel. I am going to start taking treats on my walk with me as it's been a long time since I took them for Wallee. I can get him to look up at me just saying his name on a walk now. I am in a.semi and she did get through to the other side when the new fence was being built so she looks over there trying to figure out how to get there. She also tries to get out towards the front where we walk. |

| Maybe chicken wire could help? We used to live on a large property with an old 4 foot chain link fence. I was worried that there might be spaces in the fence that my pups could escape through, and the property was too large to see the pups every second. I ended up enclosing a much smaller area with chicken wire. That way the pups couldn't get out of my sight OR my yard, but could still run & play!
