| New Yorkie - Jiro - Potty confusion Hi there - We've had our puppy Jiro with us for 1 week. He's 16 months old, coming from a respectable breeder in NJ who had separated him from his mom a week prior to that. He was trained well - came to us peeing in one spot on paper, and sure enough he was using the same spot on his wee wee pad in our kitchen right away After the weekend that he spent in the kitchen with us we started to let him out to the rest of our (tiny) apartment to explore with us. Always under supervision. We were stunned by how great the potty regimen was going. No matter where he was, or how soon after he ate he went to his pad in the kitchen and went. We got comfortable with it quickly, probably too comfortable. 2 days ago he started to thrash his wee wee pad when we were sleeping. We tried to straighten that out by taping it down to the floor - but he learned how to remove the tape quickly and then thrash it again. At that point he started to go in a spot in front of our bathroom. Now he's drawn to it like a magnet. When I came home today I found he was holding it in till he could be released from the kitchen - and go to there again. We're baffled as to how to correct it. We just sat till he peed after dinner in the kitchen on the pad, but then when released he tricked us and dropped a deus in front of the bathroom....... right now we're perched above the kitchen waiting for him to go so we can give him a treat and set him free. Any suggestions? Thank you! |

| Did you make sure you got the scent up? You need an enzyme cleaner for doggie pee. Natures miracle is best. I would also go back to confining him to the kitchen for now. He is probably totally overwhelmed. Evne a small space for a pup is like being in the middle of giants stadium to them. We kept Jess in one room for months and then one other room at a time. We hae a really large house but now she roams free. she has a pad on every floor. She occasionally has accidents but Im sensing its more to do with getting attention so we started a time out program and not giving her any attention. She is slowly getting it. Her accidents are occasional at best now.. |

| From potty training Cookie, I can say you will think your pup has it down a few times only to see them regress for a couple of days. I know it can drive you crazy. Cookie liked to go do it right by the sink in the kitchen or at this one spot on the bathroom floor for a few days. Yorkies are so stubborn sometimes, especially as pups. It can be a wild ride, but then all of a sudden one day they seem to get it out of nowhere. My best advice is extreme praise for when your pup goes in the right place and a very stern NO when you catch them going where they shouldn't. Making a big deal about successful potty trips is huge. The praise I gave Cookie was 1. Lots of happy and excited baby talk. Oh wow, Cook you're going pee outside like the big girls! Oh that's a great poop girl! 2. I'd start running around the yard and letting her chase me right after she squatted down to pee or poop. 3. When we came in I'd parade her around the house for everyone to congratulate. SHE'S PEE-PEE GIRL!!! It can be a lot of work; it always blows me away when people here say their yorkie was potty trained from day 1. As long as you make sure it feels really good for your pup to go in the right place, you'll get there.

| Ha! Got a chuckle reading your post ...I do the same with Bailee.... yea for the pee girl she's a pee pee and a pooper clap and get all excited wish she would get it already. Whats so weird is that she starting sleeping at night from 11;30-12:00 until 7:30 in the morning...dry cage! During the day, after a walk where she peed (or marked?) 3-4 times, she can come in and pee on the carpet. Its always different spots cause I do use the natures miracle every time!! I am anxiously awaiting the day she will get it!

| Same thing My puppy is doing the same thing. He is 12 weeks old and I thought he had it down - was peeing and pooping on the pads, but now for some reason he is going in other places. When I catch him, I say NO and pick him up in the act, place him on the pad and tell him to potty. He then runs off the pad and goes somewhere else, or hides. So frustrating. I have a small apartment also and he is only allowed in the living room area to the bathroom - freely. Do I have to go back to confining him again. Why do they regress? |

| Yorkies are often very stubborn at young ages, so sometimes they'll just regress. I remember how Cookie would make me want to pull my hair out sometimes when she'd go 6 days without an accident and then have 4 the next day. It was like that of and on all the time until Cook hit maybe 5.5 months. I just think it's par for the course to have regression like that at such a young age.

| So true I think I am getting that now. He just pooped on his pad now. I really do think he has a mind of his own. He knows he's not supposed to poop on the rug so when I see it he looks at me and runs away, diving under the couch and watching me pick it up. Also, when I tell him NO BITE and give him a toy to bite, he just leaps back toward me and bites again. Same with barking. He's a little handful but I love him to death. Such a little lover when he's being good. |
